Former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Deion Sanders was interviewed on KESN-FM on Thursday to discuss the Cowboys as they rest during their bye week. Here are some highlights:
On Jerry Jones telling his team to play like they’re 0-3:
What he’s saying is, he said pretend like you’re 0-3. That means he wants you play with a sense of urgency. Their backs were against the wall a week ago in Houston and they played with a sense of urgency. They went out there and got big gains from Roy [Williams], [Tony] Romo played like Romo should play and then the defense is still the defense. [Mike] Jenkins intercepted a ball, they got the ball into [Jason] Witten’s hands and even Jason Garrett tried to get you some disparity with the balance of run and pass. So that’s what he’s saying; I totally agree with that.
On the Cowboys having a more balanced running and passing attack against the Texans:
We all want balance and not only in football but in life as well. But the thing that I would applaud Jason Garrett for doing is trying to have balance, even though the team you played against is 30th, no, 50th versus the pass and you only have 32 teams; that’s how horrible they were against the pass. So you had to throw the ball because it presented itself. You have a whole secondary that you can’t name one of these players right now. So the pass presented itself with a bow on it. That’s why we’re so successful throwing the football, but you had to run just a little bit, just to have that balance. We only were 3.6 yards a carry so that really wasn’t effective, but you control the clock. You really dominated the clock, you had the ball for the majority of the time and you gave us what we needed as fans and you gave your offense a break. So you were able to set up the play action and get Witten down the seams.
