Defense last in pre-season takeaways

Rob Ryan, in his first season as the Dallas Cowboys' defensive coordinator, is off to a slow start.

His defense produced a league-low one takeaway in exhibition play: an interception by safety Gerald Sensabaugh in last week's win at Minnesota.

The Cowboys allowed 77 offensive points overall in exhibition games. That is an improvement over what Ryan's defense did in the pre-season last year. Cleveland gave up 88 offensive points. In the regular season, the Browns finished 13th in points allowed with 20.8 per game.

we better get used to our defense just being a pinata...

We have at least a few early weeks of it probably not going well...hopefully after the bye will be better...

I haven't liked this defense, scheme, design, 3-4 at all, so, just another year for me.

Yeah. We should probably move back to the 43. And I was a guy who said no to that when it was suggested by a lot of Zoners. It's been a failed expirament.

They're thinking too much. Over time it'll all be more reaction than reading.

This is probably a good point. This is where no OTA's and mini camp/s hurt us alot.

Like Theebs said, maybe after the bye week things will improve, I think we're somewhat fortunate in that of the first 4 teams we play, only the Lions have what I would consider a somewhat dangerous offense. I dont think the Jets, Niners or Redskins are threats to score alot of points unless we have alot of turnovers ourselves.

If scandrick has to start and covers plaxico the jets could be money in the redzone. And holmes is always a killer. I'm not sure how much gambling they do On defense if they can just make sanchez march the field instead.

We have an innate ability though to make backups, especially QBs, turn into all-stars for one night.

The Dallas defense, no matter who's coaching it, hasn't known WTF an int or a fumble recovery is for a long while now.

Week in and week out I see other teams offenses getting short fields, then I watch the Cowboys offense having to go 80 yards every drive if they want to score. It's really no surprise that this year will be much of the same. Same players. What did we expect?

I miss Anthony Henry. The last guy in the secondary we had that had any idea what to do to get the football in his hands.

I dont miss him at all. He also had an inate ability to miss easy tackles and let WR's run right by him.
