Panthers free-agent running back DeAngelo Williams said he's interested in signing with the Dolphins when the market finally opens. Until the lockout ends, no free-agent signings or trades can take place. Both of the Dolphins' top backs, Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams, are also free agents. DeAngelo Williams, who will turn 28 later this month, would be a younger, faster option for Miami.
"I’ve heard rumors that I may be at the top of their … board this year,” Williams said about the Dolphins on WQAM in Miami via ProFootballTalk.com. “This is a place I’d like to live. I hope I’m at the top of their list and they come after me.”
The Dolphins also are rumored to be interested in adding a back in the draft. Some mock drafts have them taking Alabama's Mark Ingram with the 15th overall selection.
Williams, who stressed he's open to re-signing with the Panthers, said he wouldn't mind splitting carries like he has in Carolina with Jonathan Stewart. “I’m running on premium, and I have more than half a tank left,” Williams said.
Williams, who has had two 1,000-yard seasons, was limited to six games last season because of injuries and rushed for 361 yards. He has a career average of 5.0 yards per carry.
