DeAngelo Hall wanted shot at Dez Bryant
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IRVING, Texas -- The deep ball has not been part of the Cowboys’ arsenal here in recent weeks. Jon Kitna has 17 completions of 20 or more yards, but ever since the long throws to Dez Bryant against the New York Giants for 45 and 46 yards on Nov. 14, most of those plays have been of the catch-and-run variety.
On a conference call not too long ago, Washington cornerback DeAngelo Hall lamented the fact that he will not get to go up against Bryant, who is on injured reserve following ankle surgery.
“He was playing great football,” Hall said. “He was definitely showing his self as a deep threat and explosive playmaker. In that first game all they did was ran little screen passes to him and try to get him the ball. I was definitely looking forward to him going out there and running actual routes and defending him.”
Bryant was targeted a team-high 12 times in the opener, catching eight passes for 56 yards. What Hall failed to remember, however, was that Bryant missed five preseason games and was not up to speed on all of the playbook.
Hall put most of the lack of a deep ball on Jon Kitna, saying veteran wants to get rid of the ball more quickly than Tony Romo.
“Obviously when you have a team that’s not going to go deep, not going to challenge you it gives you a chance through film stuff and routes and recognizing the formation, things like that,” Hall said. “It gives you a chance to sit on some things and take some chances.”
