Was pretty much what I expected unfortunately. Playing against an overmatched opponent at home, and while I never felt like we were in any danger of losing, a good team would have beaten Seattle yesterday by 5 tds. Seattle is awful.
1) Love Demarco Murray, and he was a tremendous steal for us. Great game again yesterday. I still cant believe how wrong some of the pre-draft reviews of him really were. I know they miss on players all the time, but they just missed the boat completely on this guy. 186 total yards yesterday, and for the season he now has 539 rushing yds and is averaging just under 7.0 yds per carry (6.7)
2) Looked like the OL had a pretty good day, although I'll probably get a better idea on that after I watch it on TV. Running lanes were there, and Romo had plenty of time to throw on the vast majority of passes. I dont think Romo was sacked.
3) Good balance between run and pass, I think the final tally was 31 passes and 29 runs.
4) Romo played pretty well yesterday and at least they did go after the Seattle secondary downfield some. Downfield passing had really been lacking the last few weeks IMO.
5) 3 picks of Tavaris Jackson, good job there.
Unfortunately there was probably more bad than good.
1) Goal line offense continues to be a mess. I rarely get mad at playcalling, but when you have first and goal with the ball just off the GL, just run the ball up the middle. Romo sux at QB sneaks so I understand why they dont call that, but just give the ball to Murray or Tanner and run up the middle. For the life of me I cannot understand why they think there is some rule that requires them to run the GL and short yardage offense from these short yardage/tight formations. The OL isnt physical enoguh to push people back, so run regular offensive sets/formations there. Maybe even think about running 3 WR/ 1 back sets there, and spread the other teams defense out. It makes getting a yard much easier if teams cant put 9-10 or even all 11 defenders right in the box.
2) Atrocious run defense again yesterday. Last week this same team couldnt do anything on the ground. I think Lynch was held to something like 25 yds on 16 carries. Just like Philly, they ran through our front 7 like it wasnt even there on alot of plays.
3) Most shocking thing to me was the total lack of pass rush. For the 2nd time in 3 weeks we played the team who had given up the most sacks in the league, and we managed only 1 (and just like the Rams gane, it didnt come till the end of the game). This team just cant rush the passer at all.
4) STUPID decision to keep playing Keith Brooking, who is washed up beyond belief. I know Lee is hurt, but some street scrub could play better than Brooking does right now. I know Bruce Carter got onto the field for a few plays and it looked like Church got some snaps at ILB in the nickel/dime defense, but Brooking is just as bad vs the run as he is vs the pass. Very nice pass breakup by Carter one on play, he nearly got the pick there.
5) Dez and Ogletree should be showed their stupid plays on the punt and kick returns, then made to run f'in laps in practice until their legs fall off. Really pathetic decisions by both of them that trapped us deep both times.
6) Isnt it illegal to hit other players intentionally in the heads? Isnt that exactly what happened on the Dez fumble play? Didnt the Seattle defender lead with his elbow right into Bryant's helmet? Sure looked that way.
7) Costa, more plays with delayed or slow snaps in the shotgun. I really thought Kowalski played great in preseason and he looked good at C in the San Fran game when he came in. Matt Mosley even commented that a couple Cowboy coaches said it might be hard to ever get him off the field now, and yet thats the last time he has played in a game.
8) Looked like a great play design that got Witten wide open for his TD. Why cant we design plays that get guys open like that inside the 20?
9) Loved the Ring of Honor thing yesterday. About time Drew got in there and the poster of the year had to be the fan who had the stats of "Hall of Fame" WR Lynn Swann compared to Drew's numbers.
10) Cant remember many years like this with the injuries. Austin re-pulled the hamstring on his last catch and never returned. Sounds like he might be gone till December. Kinda turning into a lost season for him.
Its a win and I guess we should be happy, but it was a ho-hum effort and a better team that Seattle probably would have beaten us badly yesterday. The offense just cant get things right the closer they get to the GL, and the defense is turning into garbage. I'm surprised Buffalo got beat down at home by the Jets yesterday, so maybe Ryan can talk with is bro and figure out what they did to slow down the Buffalo offense. But they have got to fix the run defense and lack of pass rush, otherwise Buffalo might hang 35 or more on us.
