Been watching this team since 1975, and last night was one of the all time worst games I've ever seen them play. Sure there were games more lopsided on the scoreboard, but other than seasons when we were completely over matched on the field from a talent standpoint (ie, like 1988, 1989, Campo years) this was as disparaging a loss as I can remember.

1) I know a few people seem to compare this game to that Green Bay debacle last yr, but I dont. This is worse. The team quit last year on Wade because he as so utterly clueless. The team didnt quit last night, they just got mauled.

2) I mentioned this last night, but as much as I like Garrett I dont know if he can survive many more games like this, what with how a couple other games have panned out already. The team never looked remotely interested in the game from snap one, in any phase. They looked painfully slow on both sides of the ball, like they were stuck in the mud or something. This game was a massive failure in their first really big game under Garrett. Firing a coach after only a season and a half seems unthinkable, but the fans will turn on this team quickly, especially after efforts like last night. Being on the road the last two games might be a good thing for Garrett, as Jones wont have to see a half empty stadium.

3) In regards to above, the next 5 games are probably critical. The schedule appears about as easy as it can get. If they dont go 4-1 and fall out of contention, Jones might have no choice but to talk to some of the other big names available as HC. And no, that doesnt include Rob Ryan. He wants so badly to be a HC, but I guarantee you nobody is going to interview him if they have another effort or two defensively like last night.

4) Probably bad news on the injury front again with Lee, Jenkins and McBriar all going down and not coming back. Losing a punter normally wouldnt be a big deal, but McBriar is so good that it will definitely hurt. Lee and Jenkins were both having excellent seasons. I figure Jenkins will be gone 2-4 weeks with that hamstring thing. Lee reportedly suffered a sprain, but will undergo more testing today. If the wrist is fractured in anyway he might be gone for the year. With the way this season has gone with injuries, I wouldnt be surprised if all 3 of them are done for some time.

5) Dallas barely controlled the ball for one quarter of the game (17:09). They gave up almost 500 yards and 31 first downs. They gave up an incredible 20 first downs in the first half alone. The Eagles ran through holes over and over that you could have drove a truck through, in route to 239 yards on the ground. The really ugly thing is they did all they did offensively with no play longer than 34 yards. The Eagles averaged over 7yds per PLAY, and it wasnt skewed by a bunch of big plays. At one point in the first half the Eagles were averaging nearly a first down on EVERY PLAY. Rob Ryan put together an awful game plan, and they stuck with doing the same thing that wasnt working the entire 60 minutes. The defense yielded scores on the first 6 possessions, and 3 consecutive drives had 11+ plays. We didnt force a single 3 and out and they didnt punt until the 4th quarter. The tackling had been pretty good all year, until last night. It was atrocious.

6) The offense wasnt any better. We managed only 12 first downs and only 3/10 on 3rd down. If we could have stayed in the game we could have piled up some big numbers rushing, but when you cant convert on 3rd down and keep getting further and further behind, the run game becomes a non factor. Murray had 74 yds on 8 carries. Tanner had a couple of nice catch and runs and Robinson stood out again. Otherwise, the offense was a lost cause. Costa appeared to have another bad game and it wont surpise me if he's replaced next week.

7) Considering how they chose to game plan this game defensively, deactivating Josh Brent seems even more pathetically stupid now than when it was first announced. They banked on being able to stop the run with 6 or 7 guys up front and he's clearly the biggest, most physical DL on the team. They chose to deactivate him because they said he was the slowest DL and would be a liability chasing Vick around. Brent is a very good player vs the run, and they missed him badly. The other thing thats perplexing is after seeing Keith Brooking play some of the worst football an ILB in the 3-4 has ever played last night, they gave their rookie 2nd round pick NO snaps on defense, even once the game was completely out of hand. Why? What possible good could that accomplish, especially considering your star ILB was already injured and may miss some games (if not the rest of the season) Brooking's game was just horrendous and if they cut him today, nobody would sign the guy. He's washed up.

8) In regards to the offense, after 7 games I am about this <> close to believing we've seen the better days of Tony Romo, for good. He threw the ball about as poorly as I've seen from him last night. Forget about getting timid and basically not even looking downfield. Thats fine if you are throwing the ball accurately underneath. He didnt. He threw the ball awful. Alot of his throws had no chance. He also had that same "ho hum" look on his face the whole game, like he'd have rather been somewhere else all along. He wasnt the only one, but he's supposed to be a leader here. This is supposed to be HIS team. I was really excited thinking about what he might do this yr, after seeing Jon Kitna play so well last year with a far less supporting cast and a downright terrible OL. Kitna would be an upgrade over Romo right now. I even wonder if McGee might be. I hope some of its the injury, because if it isnt we're probably sunk as a franchise if they are sticking with him for the foreseable future.

9) We'd have lost anyway, but the int on the throw to Bennett basically sealed our doom last night. Looked like he could have caught it, but it also looked like Romo underthrew it slightly too. We were down 14-0, they scored on that drive and made it 21-0, essentially ending the game.

10) No wonder Nmadi Asoumougha has so much success covering WR's. If I could line up and get away with the type of interference and holding he got away with, I could probably cover some people too. Cant believe that PI wasnt called in the endzone on Bryant. And that wasnt the only play.

11) DeMarcus Ware was credited for 11 tackles, 4 sacks and 5 tackles for loss (4 of those are the sacks). He was credited for 4 hits on the QB. Amazing game for him, the only guy who showed up. The remainder of the defense was credited with NO hits on the QB. Anthony Spencer was a no show again and as mentioned above, Keith Brooking played one of the worst games I have ever seen a guy play.

12) I was all pumped up for this week. The Seattle game is going to be my first at the new stadium, and of course they are having new Ring of Honor inductions too. Kind of deflating to see what we saw last night. After this effort last night, I really wont be all that surprised if we lose this (Seattle) game.

Absolutely nothing positive from last night. I figure they need to finish at least 10-6 to make the playoffs, and that seems unlikely considering how hard it is for them to even win two games in a row, let alone win 7 of the last 9.

No disrespect, DB, but I just skimmed this post. I'm not in a mood yet to where I can really read anything regarding last nights game.

I'm not mad, per se. Sadly, I've grown accustomed to being disappointed with this team. I'm becoming a jaded fan.

There was a time where no matter how bad the Cowboys were, I'd watch every snap. EVERY SNAP. It wasn't until mid-last year that I started turning games off early. And I did the same last night.

I don't understand last night. Not one bit. I thought that the hiring of Jason Garrett would prevent those types of games. Now, I get that in the NFL, good teams just don't show up from time to time. You'd find several examples just yesterday alone. So yeah, I understand that sometimes an 0-6 Rams team can lay into a 5-1 Saints team and drop them by double digits.

But I don't understand how this team, with as much talent, with how important that game was, and with as much trash talking that was done.... came out so completely flat and disinterested.

Is the whole "stacking great days upon one another" message already being lost on the players?

We couldn't do ANYTHING.

And I have to say, this is the second game this year where, before kickoff, Romo has given me really bad vibes. If I'm watching from my TV, and I pick up on it, I'm sure the rest of the team does as well. Going into New England and going into last night, he looked like he wanted to be anywhere but those two places. He looked defeated going in.

Now, I'm sensible to know that we're not as bad as we looked last night. But last night just re-itterated that we're just not a good team. Not yet. We've got a ways to go.

And a complete overhaul of the offensive line is still a neccessity.

So this season is lost for me. I'm relegated to rooting for Ware to break that sack record.

Dez, my other favorite Cowboy, is a complete non-factor.

Fuck I'm ready for the off season.

Be prepared for a disinterested crowd Sunday.

And rightfully so.

Our battleship is sunk, I just hope the head coach gets drowned with the rest of them.

Seeing how Campo got 3 years and Wade 4 years, Garrett will probably get a lifetime contract from Jerry.

I was hesitant on him last year because he had never even been a coordinator until we hired him in '07. And even then, after 4 years of being the OC he still was overly pass happy and didn't seem to have a good feel for the game at times. After rebounding to a respectable finish taking over the disaster last year it was hard not to give him the permanent HC job, but barring a total collapse the entire second half of the season he was going to be the hire because he's Jerry's boy. Make no mistake, prerequisite #1 is having someone Jerry's comfortable with. I knew this going in but hoped JG would turn out to be a good HC and we'd get lucky with him especially since he had more pull with Jerry than an outsider.

But so far this year I haven't seen anything more than I saw with Wade's teams. We blow our share of games we should've had wrapped up and now out of the blue get blown-out in incredulous fashion on national TV. With Wade we could've limped to a 3-4 start this year. But I guess we might as well just get used to this because Garrett isn't going anywhere anytime soon and I don't think he's going to turn into a Landry or Jimmy Johnson between now and then either.

Good points dbair. Although this game did remind me of the Green Bay game in the sense that we were never in it. The feeling i had was “i wish this game was over so i can do something else” ... and it was only halftime. Ryan had a horrible game plan. Ware would line up wide and there was a huge gap in the middle. Eagles would run right in it. Massive holes all night. Unreal. Defense finally produced a dud, their first of the year. Offense just looks uninspired. Romo doesn’t look like that play making gunslinger anymore. I don’t know what happened to him. Where did he go? In the end Garrett did not prepare the team to play. Cowboys are now below .500 again. At least we have Seattle to abuse and get us thinking homer thoughts after next week.

I'll feel better if we handle them easily, but I dont know that I'm going to be anywhere near as optimistic as I was. I'll need to see alot more than one good game against a bad team at home.

An offensive coordinator needs to be hired and possibly a new QB Coach. Both need to be tough, old school, running game type (game managers) guys. Jason can still install all of the passing stuff during training camp but he needs someone to else to call the plays on game days.

I love how we're just firing everyone now on overreaction monday. I do agree about Romo, he looks wrong. Hes looking at the rush, rather than the classic Romo avoid the rush for a big play.

I was only suggesting the QB coach be fired/replaced. Adding an Offensive Coordinator is creating a job.

I am all for firing the GM though.

Overreactors, the lot of you.

Myself? I'm a sensible fan. Witten and Ware are padding their stats, so lets celebrate that.

I haven't seen the game yet. I hope to tune in later today, before the wife comes home from work.

i am all for it.

Fire away.

I want to see jerry with the headset. Let him call the plays, he has all the answers. He could even bring his granddaughters out there as assitants. They are always running around the field anyway.

Fire fire fire

The reality of the situation is, we have two all timers on the roster. Ware and Witten. We're stuck with the likes of Romo/Garrett/Ratliff/Free, those types, for at least the next couple years.

We've got at least another 15 years with Jerry.

We've made it 15 years with this bullshit, what's another 15?

Hopefully at some point we luck into enough talent that even Jerry can't find a way to screw it up.
