Definitely wasnt pretty and maybe we should have lost the game, but an ugly win beats the shit out a pretty loss any day of the week, especially when its against an NFC East team on the road.

1) I didnt think Romo looked all that good in the first half yesterday. He badly missed Robinson on a gimmee TD (the play that I thought changed the game, we were up 10-0 and it would have been 17-0), took a couple sacks from holding the ball too long and in general threw some passes that just didnt look right. But ultimately he ended up being the difference in the game. The defense was awful, the special teams (other than Bailey) were awful and the run game disappeared. Those two tds to Robinson and Witten were amazing. He avoided the game killing turnovers and delivered in the clutch. Great play in OT to hit Bryant on 3rd and long too.

2) Demarco Murray is gonna be really sore today. Really physical game yesterday and he has to turn it around on a short week and play a pretty physical Miami defense thats playing their best ball of the year. Murray had 31 touches yesterday (25 runs, 6 receptions). I suspect we might see Felix Jones get a few more carries Thursday, and he did look pretty healthy to me yesterday. Made a couple nice cuts and on his first couple runs seemed like he had a good burst. Should also help in the passing game too I would think.

3) Hopefully they can get Tony Fiametta back for Thursday. I havent seen any updates on his situation yet, but after the run game really struggled again without him its obvious he is an integral part of the run game.

4) Several more players were banged up yesterday but did finish the game. Ratliff, Sensabaugh and Hatcher were all injured and missed some snaps. Ratliff had a knee and Hatcher reportedly had his ankle iced/wrapped after the game. As mentioned above, dont know about Fiametta yet but reportedly Mike Jenkins wants to play Thursday. I kinda doubt they'll let him, but he'll be a welcome addition once he does return. Sounds like we might not see Austin until the NYG game.

5) Defense was atrocious. Not much excuse to give up 3 tds and 24 pts to a team that had scored something like 1 offensive TD in 5 weeks coming in. If not for their FG kicker missing two long ones we'd have lost. Up 24-17 late in the game and with them having to go 90 yards, and then doing it with ease was about as disgusted as I've been in a long time about our D. The one positive is the run defense was vastly improved over the previous 3 or 4 games, as we yielded only 60 yards on 24 carries. There's just no pass rush whatsoever unless Ware gets lucky and only has to beat one guy instead of 2 or 3. The last 4 games or so there's maybe one or two plays a week where a blitz works, the rest seem easily neutralized. Spencer was terrible yesterday. Whats so disgusting about the pass defense is this is the same Redskin team that gave up 9 or 10 sacks to the Bills, and we hardly touched the QB. The Bills shut this team out by the way.

5) I notice today after shooting their mouths off postgame about how "lucky" we got because of the refs crediting Shanahan with the TO instead of Romo, that most of the useless media finally figured out it was 3rd down and we could have ran another play anyway.

6) There is just something extremely satisying about seeing Deangelo Hall get punked. He's definitely on my top-5 for most hated dickbags in the NFL. Gave up all sorts of plays yesterday, and couldnt catch 270lb TE Jason Witten on his TD. (Hall supposedly runs 4.3, but I always see him chasing people and never catching them) So glad this garbage isnt on our team. (I was in CZ at the time, but there was post after post about what a great add Hall would be here)

7) OL struggled after having a couple of strong games. But its another indictment of just how important Fiametta is to the run game. He gets blocks on the right people whereas Phillips and Witten just cant from that spot.

8) Kinda lost in the shuffle is the nice game Martellus Bennett had. He had a sensational one handed grab on a ball that appeared to be nearly picked off, and then in OT had a catch and run that drug numerous Redskins with him. I know I'm in the minority, but I still feel when he gets his chance to be a #1 TE he's going to put up really solid numbers. It probably wont be 80-90 catch numbers, but I could see him consistently getting 50-60 per year. Unfortunately it isnt going to be here.

9) Stop the presses. Demarcus Ware drew a holding call. I think thats 2 or maybe 3 now for the season for the leagues best pass rusher.

10) As down as I am on the defense, as I mentioned yesterday I think the problems are correctable. Although probably not this year. We desperately need another pass rusher (or two) and probably need a true FS who can play the ball in space (been a need for a long time now) as I see Sensabaugh and Elam as mostly the same player. Both of them are decent enough vs the run, but neither of them are all that good at going and getting the ball in space. I think one of the big weaknesses will be corrected once Carter replaced James/Brooking. We probably need another DL as well. I'd do whatever I could to resign Laurant Robinson before free agency starts so we dont create another hole, and maybe add another interior OL. Otherwise I'm thinking next offseason is going to be extremely defense heavy, much like the offseason between the 91/92 season was.

11) I hope the league addresses the ridiculously early trade deadline this offseason. Maybe now that the Bears are 7-3, but have probably lost their season because of Cutler's hand injury will help get some talk started again. There would definitely be more trades if they'd move the deadline back (maybe Thanksgiving) so that teams that are in it, but lose a key guy can make a move to help their season. Likewise teams that are out it completely can start dealing some veterans for future picks and playing younger guys down the stretch. I also think they could do something cap-wise to help facilitate trades, perhaps by allowing teams to share the cap hit instead of just the player's original team eating it all would be an idea.

12) Other than the miss vs SF, the game winning kick yesterday by Bailey was the only other one that was close to a miss. What a find this kid has been. I read some players started going to the lockerroom before the kick even went off his foot, because they were so sure he'd nail it. And no, I dont feel bad that we won a game because the other teams kicker missed two. For what seems like eons now, we've been murdered by other teams kickers. They almost NEVER miss vs us, regardless of the condition or game situation.

13) We're tied for first now. If we take care of what we should do (beat Miami, beat Arizona) we could be 2 games up in the NFC East when the Giants come to town. I dont see them beating New Orleans or Green Bay the next two weeks, which would make them 6-6. Philly has New England next week then has to go to Seattle and Miami. I think at best they win 2 of those 3, and likely only 1 of the 3. Just one more loss probably eliminates Philly, and I think that loss will come next week. I think Reid will survive and stay in Philly, but I could defintiely see the Giants making a change after this season if they flop and dont make the playoffs.

I hope they take fat boy Rob. But do you think New York is ready for two Ryans? I would LOVE to have Nolan here.

Oh yeah. Great piece as always dbair. I always look forward to these pieces especially after a win.

There should have been alot more calls made, because Ware was held more than that. But it was Ed Hochuli's crew, so are you surprised? Of all the refs, I hate his ass the most and on so many levels.

Yeah. Now we know how important Fiametta is to our run game. Can't wait until he comes back.

Phillips did a decent job though. On a side note one big play of the game was that Bennett catch. Have to give him props for that.

That was a frustrating loss. We started off so strong, but then it looked like we got bored and disinterested. I'm sure that wasn't what was happening, but it appeared that way.

It frustrates me because the Redskins either play us close, or they blow us out. Didn't they beat us like 35-7 under Parcells, when we were supposed to be the better team? I was very much hoping that yesterday was going to be a big win for where we just embarrassed them. But it was not to be.

Still, as Romo alluded to post game, we haven't played a close game like this in a few weeks and they're good for helping the team gain perspective.

Now, hopefully the team recognizes Miami is playing well (I'd assume, havent' watched them, just know they're winning handidly the past few weeks) and that we're going to need a solid effort from the team to win on Thursday.

Our next two games won't be easy. The Dolphins are a much better team these last few games and Arizona with Bartel could give us fits.

Yeah we have the upper hand on the Giants but it could go either way. The two most important games will be against the Giants. We need both of them. That'll be a tough task. Hopefully we get Austin and Fiametta back for this stretch run.

Not entirely true. We shut them out twice in this century---one time with Quincy Carter and Troy Hambrick. In fact Carter was undefeated against the Redskins.

I know what you mean though. I wish our players would match the Redskins' players intensity when they play. The Redskins play the Cowboys like it's the Super Bowl, so then how can reciprocate? You can't really expect the Cowboys to make like playing and beating the Redskins like it's the Super Bowl. It just always comes down to the Cowboys playing down to the competition jo matter the Redskins' team, and the Redskins playing up to the competition.

I know what Cowboys' Week is like in D.C. They don't have a Redskins' week in Dallas.

Rex grossman said it clearly after the game...we all try and win this game really hard because of how important it is to the owner...

Just look at their games in recent years against us, the rest of their season looks nothing like it. It's about Snyder turning the cowboys games into a super bowl..

It's a losers mentality. Shannahan and Gibbs could not even stop this mentality.

The whole we could have run another play thing is a stupid argument. God knows what would happen with us throwing the ball to get better FG position. No matter how you slice it, bonehead move by romo.

It was bad, but it wasnt a monumental mistake though. If thats the worst thing he ever does, we're in great shape.

On that last drive Scandricks attemp at a tackle was to become a speed bump and hope their FB got tripped up as he stepped on his head. 27 yard gain. Should have been ball game

Agreed. Interception notwithstanding, Scandrick had a poor game.

Ball outplayed him yesterday.
