Darren McFadden continues to be sidelined with a hamstring injury, and the Dallas Cowboys aren’t going to rush him back to practice, Drew Davison of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Coach Jason Garrett said McFadden won’t return to practice until after the team’s first preseason game at San Diego next Thursday, which means the earliest McFadden would go is next Saturday.

There had been some hope that McFadden could return to practice as early as today.

“It’s just being very deliberate with his rehab,” Garrett said. “Making sure a guy who has these soft tissue injuries is really ready to go before we put them back out there.”

Garrett said McFadden has done a good job of staying engaged with the team despite missing practices.

“Very good in meetings, very good in walkthroughs,” Garrett said.

I thought it was pretty funny last week when Steve basically admitted he and Jerry were making the call on when he returns over the coaches.

Yeah, the quote is out there, but I heard the interview myself, and he basically said some of the coaches would like him out there but it was Jerry's job as GM and his job as personnel man to decide that, and they didn't think he was ready.

Jesus Christ. I disagree with that. It should be the coaches decision once the trainer says they're good to go.

Has the trainer said he's good to go?

Also, I didn't hear what TE said Jones said, but I did hear and read Stephen Jones' comments about a lot of people in the organization being frustrated with McFadden. Didn't really sound like he was an exception to that when he said it either.

I think it's a good thing. I want to see or rather hear more about Gus Johnson. Word is that he looks pretty good. I'd be happy if they put McFadden on PUP.
