FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Darrelle Revis will miss Sunday's game at Miami after aggravating an injured left hamstring last week in a win over the Patriots.
"I'm feeling good I'm progressing every day and it's getting better every day," the Jets cornerback said.
Revis had an MRI on the leg on Monday, which revealed a strain. Jets coach Rex Ryan said that Revis has been at the Jets facility getting treatment on the leg for 12 hours a day since.
Ryan also said that Calvin Pace, who broke his foot in a preseason game against the Redskins, will also miss the game. Ryan said with Revis, the Jets want to be cautious.
"He's itching to get back but it's too risky of a proposition to put them out there," Ryan said. "And that's what we decided."
Both player and coach have wondered aloud if Revis' holdout from training camp could have hurt his conditioning and ultimately contributed to the injury. He first experienced tightness in the hamstring just days after he rejoined the team, during an opening-game loss to Baltimore.
"I'm disappointing my teammates I want to be out there with them but I can't," Revis said. "I'm going to take my time and get back 100 percent and then I'll be out there playing with them."
Revis was conspicuously absent from the morning practice but was in the locker room during the team's media availability period. He will not make the trip to Miami with the team, but will be with the Jets until then and continue to receive medical treatment at the facility while the team travels.
After the MRI, Revis said that he was told it could take one or two weeks to heal. On Wednesday he was asked if it might take more than that.
"I have no clue man," Revis said. "Like I said I'm getting better every day and it feels good but we're going to take time."
All-Pro center Nick Mangold (right shoulder) and backup offensive lineman Wayne Hunter (shin) spent practice on the stationary bikes, but Ryan expects them to play. Linebacker Jason Taylor was limited while wearing a brace on his injured left elbow, but is also expected to play against his former team.
Revis was limited in practice last week with tightness in the hamstring, but said he felt completely healthy heading into the game against New England on Sunday.
He immediately grabbed at his leg after Randy Moss made a spectacular, one-handed 34-yard touchdown catch in front of him with 53 seconds left in the first half of New York's 28-14 win.
Revis was examined on the sideline, and then taken to the locker room for treatment. He didn't return and watched the second half in the trainer's room.
With Revis out, Antonio Cromartie will move across the field and step into his spot while rookie Kyle Wilson draws the other starting assignment.
"I'm sure Cro's probably going to get a pick this weekend," Revis said with a laugh.
Cromartie, who shut down Moss after Revis went out, will primarily be matched up with Brandon Marshall on Sunday. The two went up against each other several times in recent seasons when Cromartie was in San Diego and Marshall was in Denver. Cromartie was also part of a Chargers secondary that gave up 18 catches by Marshall in 2008.
"I'm definitely looking forward to that matchup," Cromartie said. "It's my ninth time facing him, so we know each other well. I'm just looking forward to the challenge."
