IRVING, Texas -- With David Buehler on injured reserve with a groin injury, Dan Bailey will return to kickoff duty on Sunday against Buffalo.

“I’ve still been doing them but not hitting them as much,” Bailey said. “I’ve been keeping ready to go because of his status has been a little uncertain for a little bit. It doesn’t change much. Luckily I’ve had a little experience doing it before. I don’t think it’ll be a problem.”

Bailey handled all of the kicking duties when Buehler missed four weeks earlier this season because of a groin injury. On 24 kickoffs he had six touchbacks and the opponents’ averaging starting point was the 22.3. Buehler had nine touchbacks in 18 kickoffs and the opponents started on overage at the 20.4.

Bailey, who has made 19 straight field goal attempts, is likely to continue with Tony Romoas his holder even if Mat McBriar returns from a nerve problem affecting his left foot. The stance McBriar has to assume in holds affects his leg injury.

“I’m not too picky,” Bailey said of how he likes the ball tilted on field goal tries. “The only thing that really matters is if the laces are straight at me. As long as it’s down, I’ll kick it.”

Which would be different from the rest of the season how exactly. He has been working as the full time kicker.

The beuhler has barely played.

I haven't noticed a difference between Beuhler and Bailey on kickoffs. Bailey should be our guy for the next several years.

Agreed. Also, Beuhler should have been released before. You don't keep a kicker with these new rules just for kickoff duties.

It's a waste of a roster spot.

Especially when he can't completely kick it out the endzone like a lot of the other strong leg kickers that also handle PK...What a joke

I have. Bailey's kicks go almost as far and are higher. He nailed 6 touchbacks yesterday, and could have easily had a 7th.

When Buehler gets into one there's no question he can kick it farther, but his impact consistency isnt where Bailey's is. Kinda like in golf where you see one guy who can swing 120mph, but only pures 1 out of 10 to take advantage of it, vs the guy who swings 100-105 but nails the sweet spot almost every time.

23 in a row is nuts.

He was kicking 55 yard fg into the upper part of the net yesterday during warmups...

That was just one of Jerruh's lame excuses to try and keep teh Beuhler. FAIL.
