Dallas week: Cowboys banged up heading into Week 3
By Mike Jones
The Dallas Cowboys emerged from Sunday’s game with a slew of injuries and the statuses of several key players for Monday’s game against the visiting Washington Redskins remain in doubt.
Quarterback Tony Romo suffered a broken rib on Sunday, and now ESPN Dallas is reporting that he also has a punctured lung.
According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, wide receiver Miles Austin came away from the game with a hamstring injury. Meanwhile, running back Felix Jones played on Sunday despite suffering a separated shoulder. He mustered just 25 yards on nine carries. Center Phil Costa suffered a knee injury in the second half and had to be replaced by rookie Kevin Kowalski.
The Star-Telegram does report that cornerback Terence Newman, who has missed the first two games with a hamstring injury, expects to play Monday against Washington and believes that he will start. However, fellow defensive backs Orlando Scandrick and Mike Jenkins also are still nursing injuries.
Additionally, wide receiver Dez Bryant (quad) and starting left guard Bill Nagy (neck) didn’t play on Sunday. No word on their statuses for Monday yet. Old friend Derrick Dockery got the start, according to ESPN Dallas.
