Dallas Cowboys On Shortlist For HBO's 'Hard Knocks'?

by One.Cool.Customer on Mar 23, 2011 10:00 AM CDT

On Monday, Pat Yasinskas of ESPN reported that the Buccaneers are the leading candidate to feature on this year's season of the HBO reality show "Hard Knocks." Apparently, while the Bucs have been involved in talks, no deal has been finalized.

Yesterday, a report suggested that HBO may also be considering the Dallas Cowboys, the Seattle Seahawks, the Miami Dolphins, the San Francisco 49ers and the Denver Broncos in addition to the Bucs. Of course, that is all assuming that there will be a CBA in place in time for a training camp to take place in July or August.

The Cowboys were featured on the show twice before, in 2002 and 2008. Jerry Jones would love the opportunity to get onto the national spotlight again and HBO might get a kick out of focusing on 'the other Ryan' after the Jets declined to pursue a second season, but would the notoriously tight-lipped Jason Garrett play along?

Let us know your thoughts on the Cowboys potentially appearing on "Hard Knocks" again. The Cowboys are always worth a story, there are characters everywhere and the haters alone will drive ratings up, let alone the Cowboys fans around the nation. But would the potential distraction be worth it?

NO! NO MORE HARD KNOCKS! Garrett does not need this. Does he really want to be associated with Campo and Wade on this?

I hate the distraction for my football team.

I find the inside look fascinating.

If I could choose, I'd say no. We need a no nonsense real training camp.

I love watching and reading all things Cowboys'-related but I had my fill of Hard Knocks. One thing I give credit to Parcells for was not allowing that during his tenure, and I hope Garrett follows suit. I still cannot get out of my mind Campo's time clock.

It's the inside look I like about it,as well.

I hate the homogenized pap from the Cowboys Camp Reports, and just as equally hate the ESPN/NFLN "WR Johnny Dropsalot not getting the ball enough says agent".

But I also have distaste for the distraction this show can cause.

So,no.

I like the inside look just as much as the next fan.

For some reason it's too much of a distraction and the players don't take it seriously.

Some treat it as a vacation away from their normal routine.

Yeah the coach meetings they show are great. I could watch that all day.

Plus, what a year to have it with Rob Ryan around.

But it's one of those deals where we're better off without it. Let the coaches have the players undivided attention. The last thing we need is more circus.

The Bengals played well the year they were on Hard Knocks. The Jets went to the championship game last year after being on the show. So it can be done.

But everything's bigger with the Cowboys. I'd just rather not even risk it. Even though that means missing out on some really interesting footage.

As an aside, I think it wouldn't be a bad idea if the NFL considered war room inside access coverage to the hard core fans. I'd imagine people would pay to be a fly on the wall during the draft. Hear exactly what's being said, who's on the phone, what we're targeting where.

I know they have these draft day cams. I'm not talking about that. I mean audio with the video, so you know exactly what's going on.

The only problem with that is the secrecy aspect to it. Teams would monitor that to get the upper hand. So nobody would want to do it.

But as a pure revenue generator and option for the diehard fan, it'd be outstanding. I'd pay top dollar for it.

No way in hell do I want the new regime to start out on Hard Knocks. Let this team totally focus on football without cameras jammed up every orifice.
