Is that correct?
I just read that in a Brandon George chat. That's ridiculous.
Wouldn't suprise me if he's still on the roster in 2012 if that is the case.
That can't be right. Newman signed a 5 year contract where he would received all of his guaranteed money in the first 3 years of his new contract. He is currently in the last year of the 3 year guaranteed portion of that contract. After this season the Cowboys would have the option of retaining him.
You are incorrect sir.
5/20/2008: Signed a six-year, $50.2 million contract extension through 2014. The deal contains $22.5 million guaranteed, including a $12 million signing bonus. 2011: $8 million, 2012: $6.016 million, 2013: $7,600,417, 2014: $7.5 million, 2015: Free Agent
He's done. The problem is a new starter will need to be brought in. Cowboys have said numerous times Scandrick is their nickel(third) cornerback, this year and beyond.
We will most likley see 3 new CB's next year with 1 of them possibly being practice squad member Mario Butler. Along with Newman, I don't think Alan Ball or Frank "the holding machine" Walker will be back next year. Mike Jenkins will be in the last year of his contract in 2012 as well.
You are incorrect sir.

Now, I know for a few years some corners were getting ridiculous contracts (see Nate Clements, San Francisco)... but at no point was Newman ever worth that much money.

How am I incorrect? The $22.5 million in guaranteed was to be paid over the first 3 years of the contract. Now if he signed that extension in 2008, than in either 2010---last year or the end of this year, is the last year of the guaranteed portion that covers the first 3 years.
He signed a 6-year deal and still has significant cap hits in 2012 ($8.016 million), 2013 ($9.6 m), and 2014 ($9.5M). This doesn't include any roster or performance bonuses that will increase the cap hits. I believe if we cut him after June 1, we'd take a cap hit of approx $6 m in accelerated bonus money in 2013 versus his $8 m cap hit if he stays in 2012. I think we can get a lot more for $8 million than an aging Newman. Even the $6 m in dead money wont be as bad as his 2013 cap hit of $9.5 m.
Ok. I'll take your word for it. Where did you get your info though?
