Olshansky, Akwasi, 4 FBs Among 27 Cuts
Nick Eatman
DallasCowboys.com Staff Writer

IRVING, Texas - In the last five weeks, the Cowboys have waived five starters from last year's team. And with Saturday's cut-down day at Valley Ranch, add at least two more to the list, with virtually a new starter at kicker as well.

Defensive end Igor Olshansky was the biggest name among the 26 announced cuts by the Cowboys Saturday. Fullback Chris Gronkowski was also waived as the club did not keep a single fullback on the current roster.

The biggest question mark surrounding this team has been at kicker and the Cowboys have decided to keep rookie Dan Bailey and David Buehler after waiving veterans Shayne Graham and Dave Rayner. With Bailey staying, it likely means he will be the opening-day place-kicker, which would replace Buehler, who will be relegated to kickoffs.

Other significant roster cuts include a pair of former fourth-round draft picks - Akwasi Owusu-Ansah and Brandon Williams. At the start of camp, Owusu-Ansah was a starting free safety but didn't take advantage of a week with the first-team. After veterans Gerald Sensabaugh and Abram Elam were signed, Owusu-Ansah went to the second team and never made a significant contribution in preseason.

Williams, a fourth-rounder in 2009, was a non-factor in his three seasons. He was beaten out by rookie free agent Alex Albright for the final outside linebacker spot.

Here are Saturday's roster cuts:

QB Tom Brandstater
RB Lonyae Miller
FB Shaun Chapas
FB Chris Gronkowski
FB Jason Pociask
FB Isaiah Greenhouse
WR Lyle Leong
WR Manuel Johnson
WR Tysson Poots
WR Teddy Williams
G Pepa Letuli
DE Igor Olshansky
DE Jimmy Saddler-McQueen
LB Brandon Williams
LB Mike Balogun
LB Kenwin Cummings
LB Orie Lemon
S Akwasi Owusu-Ansah
S Andrew Sendejo
S Colin Zych
CB Mario Butler
CB Chris Randle
CB Josh Thomas
K Shayne Graham
K Dave Rayner
P Chris Jones

Moved to IR:
WR Raymond Radway

We can't keep missing on 4th rounders. Hopefully, Arkin puts a stop to the recent trend.

Most was camp fodder and to be expected. Hopefully Butler and Chappas to the practice squad.

And the search continues.....FB is a missing link with this team.

Olshansky.....about time.

AoA. We hardly knew ya. For all the hype and athleticism we heard and read about after being drafted you lived up to none of it.

I'm surprised at a few of these cuts. AOA especially. He really didn't have a lot of time to show himself.

I am glad that Rucker made the team though. Nice..

We didn't have time to babysit him. As a rookie in preseason he looked the most lost I've ever seen a rookie look. Dude was like a 5 year project on a 4 year rookie contract.

I thought he did well for himself in preaseason but chances are if Bennett was fully healthy he may not have made the cut.

Oh yeah, I'm sure that was the reasoning for keeping Rucker.

Surprised we kept Parnell and Young. As more cuts come filtering down from other teams it's highly probable that 2 or 3 players currently clinging to that last roster spot are going to be shown the door as well.

No FBs on the roster. Looks like we are featuring the tight end playing the H back.

I think they are feeling that Young is smart enough to get it eventually. That's the only reasoning I can come up as to why they kept him.

And dbair, again, I doubt we sign many players. Maybe 1 guy who is going to be on the waiver wire.

I hope Butler makes it pass waivers. I think that is dumb to cut him, while keeping trash like Young and Ball.

Agreed. I would of taken Mario Butler over Ball for sure. As far as Sam Young, yeah, he sucks.

About what I expected. Thought Cummings would have made it though.

I thought of all the backup ILBs that he would make it. I am surprised we are going into a game with only three active, particularly since two of them (Lee and Brooking) are injury risks. I know people think we may be targeting a veteran, I am not convinced there is one out there who could help very much.
