Yes he should. Yes the guy has had some injuries. But the guy can change the game for the Cowboys the way Ratliff did in 2009. Jenkins and Ratliff on the DL is too much for teams to handle with Ware and include Spencer. Because with Jenkins on Spencers side the OL has to account for Jenkins passrush ability aswell as his ability to look for the run. Something teams didnt have to think about with Spears. Spears had zero passrush ability.

Ratliff isn't a NT, first off. He likely won't succeed at that position for a second straight year if we decide to keep him there, and if he moves to DE as he should we won't even need a starting DE. Secondly, one of the main jobs of a DE in a 34 is to anchor the run. Im glad he's a great pass rusher, but we have alot of those here. Now, im not saying we couldn't use the guy, i like his size for the position, but he's also never been known as a guy with a great motor and gets hurt too often. There are some positives and negatives. Could he help us? Yes. Should he be our biggest FA target when you consider all of our positional needs? Again..no.

Ratliff didnt succeed because Teams accounted for him and knew he was responsible for 2 gaps. In Ryans system he will be responsible for 1 gap and attack. Considering Jenkins has playmaking ability as a DE in a 3-4 and has shown that. The price between DE's playing in a 3-4 as opposed to other team needs id say Jenkins should be at the top too. DE and maybe Guard is a close 2nd. I dont think CB is as big of a need and Safety is a need but there isnt a "Elite" player to be picked up. So you get of the top FAs available. And i think the best DL available

He barely turned 30. He still has atleast 5 good yrs left. I dont think he'll land in Dallas, They seem to be very high on Bowen. That wasnt the question of the Thread tho. They just mentioned that he should be at the top of the wish list. And i agree. He should based on his ability and team needs

Disagree. I wouldn't sign any FA over 30 to a big deal. And Jenkins will get a pretty nice contract.

I could see Jenkins playing great for a year or two and then declining while his contract number just gets bigger. It'll probably take at least a 4 year deal to get him.

I'd rather find the next Jenkins.

He isnt worth a mega contract, and if he was going to give someone a discount it'd almost assuredly be his own team.

I dont think he'll get a mega contract. He's had some injury problems. And he is 30. He wont be cheap but he's not going to be making 8-9 mil a yr either.

I don't think you're gonna see many bargains in free agency this year. No time for the market to settle. It's going to be a mad dash to get what you can get before the season starts.

Advantage players, IMO.

Ratliff didn't succeed because he's not a NT.. period. He can't take on 2 or 3 blockers in the middle of the line and get any kind of push or hold anyone up whatsoever. He got swallowed up early and often last year. That's not his skill set. He's a 300 lb guy who's skills at rushing the passer and strength to take one one blocker and dominate him would be best suited for DE.

Jenkins isn't an "elite" FA, btw. I'd much rather make sure we get a guy like Weddle, Huff, or one of the safeties that will be available. Jenkins is a guy i wouldn't mind having, but not a top priority.

Agreed on Ratliff. People keep pointing to the fact he's been a pro bowl NT. That doesn't mean it's his natural position. It means he's a pretty damn good player who can still make an impact playing out of position.

But everything I know about what a NT does in a 3-4 defense isn't Ratliff. I'd love to move him and at least see if Brent can handle the job this year. If he can't, then move Ratliff back during the season.

Even if you believe he is a good NT, you have to admit you'll prolong his career by getting him out of there and let somebody else take the pounding of constant double teams.

"Igor is way better than Canty and hes costing half the price"
"Stephen Bowen is going to be better than Igor anyway"

The Cowboys tried Ratliff at DE when they drafted him. He didnt do very good.

Very "well".

..and it was his rookie season and he still had 4 sacks and 7 QB pressures while not even starting at the position. He did just fine. The reason he moved to NT was because Ferguson got hurt.
