Cullen Jenkins on Cowboys' radar

SAN ANTONIO -- The Cowboys opened discussions with defensive end Stephen Bowen on Tuesday, but they also have an interest in Green Bay’s Cullen Jenkins, according to a source.

Jenkins, 30, missed the final four regular-season games and the Packers’ run to the Super Bowl because of a calf strain, but he finished with seven sacks, a high total for a 3-4 defensive end. In his seven seasons in Green Bay Jenkins, 6-2, 305 pounds, recorded 29 sacks.

The Cowboys have a need along the defensive line because in addition to Bowen, Marcus Spears and Jason Hatcher are unrestricted free agents. Bowen showed last year he could be a three-down player, filling in after Spears went down for the year with a calf injury.

The Cowboys would like to keep Bowen, but Jenkins’ familiarity with the 3-4 and pass rush ability make him a top-of-the-line candidate as well to pair with Jay Ratliff on the interior in passing situations.

In the draft the Cowboys were interested in 3-4 defensive ends like J.J. Watt, Cam Heyward and Cameron Jordan, looking at them as possible three-down players as well.

The Cowboys may or may not have a genuine interest in Cullen Jenkins. No, this is not a guess.

I have no idea why they let him go, do you?

He was waived in camp 2007(?) in favor of one of our multitude of worthless draft picks Courtney Brown with whom we tried to convert to safety. That didn't turn out so well.
