SportsDayDFW.com columnist Tim Cowlishaw chatted with fans on Wednesday and answered questions about the Dallas Cowboys. Here are some highlights:

Do the Cowboys take Prince Amukamara at No. 9 if he is available, despite Jerry's comment about the secondary? If not, does this prove that Jerry has gone back on his word about it being Jason Garrett's team?

Two things here: One, Jerry never said this is Garrett's team. Jerry says Garrett will have unprecedented authority over the roster and assistant coaches -- which means he should have the same authority Jimmy and Parcells had. Now, as far as the draft goes, forget what Jerry or anyone else says. They all lie. To be honest, they should lie (if that sentence makes sense?). No one wants to tip their hand. I know The Cornerback Known as Prince is rated very highly and he can do it all. Would be a great addition, I would have to think at 9.

Do the Cowboys shop Marion Barber? How likely is it that we can even unload his contract?

Shop him? You mean like take him shopping for a new house? Barber took a serious beating with his running style his first five seasons. He averaged 3.3 yards per carry last year. You know who wants that on their team? Right. No one.

The Cowboys’ two glaring needs are offensive line and safety; what reasonable free agents can help, assuming there is free agency this year?

You know, I looked a list of free agents the other day and it's not impressive. Of course, New England's YOUTHFUL Logan Mankins (for those who followed my last chat when I called him 32) is out there. I think the lockout puts everything up in the air, and more than ever, teams have to focus on improving through the draft.

I’ve seen some recent mock drafts and they have Dallas taking Mark Ingram at 9. I just don’t see it happening and I wouldn’t like that. What are your thoughts?

Well, they need another running back regardless of what you think of Felix. I wouldn't put it at top priority but if for whatever reason you had Mark Ingram ranked way ahead of whatever OL or DB was on board, you have to take him.

Do you really see Rob Ryan turning this defense around this next season (if there is a next season)?

It's certainly possible. No one was said this was a bad defense when it was shutting down the Eagles at the end of '09. How did it get from that point to most points allowed in NFC? Someone has to light fires under Spencer and figure out the secondary. Rob Ryan can do that.
