We all know that the Super Bowl is set to be played in Cowboys Stadium in February. At least we have heard rumors to that effect.
And, yes, the Cowboys have a realistic chance of becoming the first team to play a true home game on its field for a Super Bowl. There will probably be a few mentions of that over the next six months, so let's shelve that idea for the moment.
Needless to say, there's a pretty good chance it doesn't happen. In that case, what is Jerry Jones' biggest nightmare? Who does the Cowboys owner not want to see celebrating on the star and dancing on the stadium of his dreams?
More important to you Cowboys' fans, what's your biggest nightmare?
I am writing a column on this later, but here are my early thoughts.
Considering all the possibilities, Steelers-Eagles is Jerry's and probably most Cowboys' fans biggest nightmare.
Let's look at some of the other teams before we get to them.
AFC
Dolphins -- High on the nightmare list. Bill Parcells comes back to town. Uninvited. The fact that he has taken bits and pieces from the Cowboys' organization to rebuild the Dolphins would be painful for Jerry. But Parcells isn't walking the sideline as head coach, and ex-Cowboys coach Tony Sparano generates no hate in these parts, so it's not all that bad.
Chargers -- Norv Turner looks up at Jerry's box and says, "I told ya so.''
Bengals -- Good grief. T.O. scores the Super Bowl-winning touchdown in Arlington. We'll put this one hold until we see how realistic it might be.
Patriots -- Bob Kraft continues to one-up Jerry with his fourth Super Bowl ring of the 21st century to Jerry's zero.
Colts -- No real anti-Indy feelings here that I can come up with.
Texans -- Ouch, here's a painful one for many. After eight years of total irrelevance other than a Rookie of the Year on performance-enhancing drugs, what if the Texans put it all together? What if Matt Schaub gets to a Super Bowl before Tony Romo?
Steelers -- Still have to go with these guys as No. 1. Simply the thought of all those towel-waving fans filling the stadium (which they would surely do) and Pittsburgh adding to its league-high Lombardi Trophy collection makes Cowboys fans cringe.
NFC
Giants -- No love for this team, but not as much hate as other NFC East rivals as well.
Redskins -- Now this would be huge if Donovan McNabb and Mike Shanahan put this thing back together. Given the unreality of that situation, I'm not going to rank the 'Skins No. 1.
Packers -- The rivalry with Dallas is ancient history to younger fans.
49ers -- The only other NFC team with 5 Super Bowl rings. I doubt many fans have given much thought to a San Francisco visit. But it starts with winning the division and the 49ers' running game and defense are certainly capable of making that happen.
Saints -- Got to rank pretty high if Sean Payton makes it two straight. But let's face it. Even if we don't talk about it, we all love the Saints.
Vikings -- Brett Favre makes that final Super Bowl appearance. Hold that thought. Let's just call it his next Super Bowl appearance and worry about the finality of it later.
Eagles -- Not out of the question that they get here, even with Kevin Kolb at quarterback. They have most of the other pieces in place...if they can figure out how to block DeMarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer.
I go with Steelers-Eagles as No. 1 on the nightmare list. Let's see who you've got
