Gerry Fraley / Reporter

Former San Francisco defensive coordinator Greg Manusky told reporters today that he will interview with the Dallas Cowboys on Wednesday.

Manusky interviewed with Carolina for its head-coach opening on Saturday. He is scheduled to meet with Arizona on Tueday to discuss joining the Cardinals as defensive coordinator before moving on to a similar meeting with the Cowboys.

Manusky played 11 seasons in the NFL and coached linebackers with Washington and San Diego. He has been the 49ers defensive coordinator for the last four seasons, but new San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh is not expected to retain him. Harbaugh has indicated that he wants to bring in NFL veteran Vic Fangio, who worked with him at Stanford this year.

Manusky uses the 3-4 defense. San Francisco ranked 13th for points allowed this seaosn and were second overall against the run, allowing 3.5 yards per attempt. The 49ers ranked 24th in pass defense.

Paul Pasqualoni served as the Cowboys' defensive coordinator for the final eight games this season. Newly installed head coach Jason Garrett asked that Pasqualoni be moved into the role at mid-season and said he was pleased with his work.

He is one of the better options. If we cant get Nolan or Capers he's probably my 3rd choice. A little younger, fiery and aggressive.

Manusky, Fangio, Bowles, Nolan...am fine with any of them

I think Garrett's really smart, he's gonna do everything he can to surround himself with solid coaches.

Niners' Manusky interviews for Cardinals' DC vacancy

San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Greg Manusky is interviewing Tuesday with Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt for that team's vacant defensive coordinator position, the team's official website reported via Twitter

Manusky isn't expected to retained by new 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh, but he has emerged as a candidate for several head-coaching and defensive coordinator jobs around the NFL.

NFL.com senior writer Steve Wyche reported that Manusky is at or near the top of Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett's interview list for defensive coordinator. Manusky also is expected to gain strong consideration from the San Diego Chargers after defensive coordinator Ron Rivera was hired by the Carolina Panthers, , according to NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora.

Manusky also interviewed for Panthers' head-coaching job.

On Thursday, the Cardinals fired defensive coordinator Bill Davis, who had been on staff since Ken Whisenhunt became coach in 2007.

Davis is the second defensive coordinator fired by Whisenhunt in his four seasons in Arizona. Clancy Pendergast was dismissed after the team's run to the Super Bowl in the 2008 season.
