OBSERVATION DECK
Here's what I saw from the third day of the Cowboys' practices Saturday at the Alamodome in San Antonio:

• Rookie undrafted free agent linebacker Alex Albright (6-5, 257) from Boston College had a great afternoon practice. He penetrated the line of scrimmage and would have stopped RB Lonyae Miller for about a 3-yard loss. A few plays later, he knocked down an attempted screen pass by QB Stephen McGee.

• NT Jay Ratliff and rookie OL David Arkin began pushing each other after one play in team drills. Center Phil Costa came in late and he and Ratliff went to the field scuffling before teammates broke it up.

• Ex-Texas Tech LB Brandon Williams from Fort Worth has been a bright spot early in training camp. Each day, he's shown great speed off the ball and been able to get into the backfield. On Saturday, he would have had another sack on McGee.

• WR Dez Bryant had several good catches Saturday, flashing the athleticism that Cowboys' coaches love. He also flew past rookie CB Josh Thomas of Cedar Hill on one play but fell down when going for the ball. He made a nice spinning catch in front of CB Mike Jenkins along the sideline.

• Ex-Kimball RB Phillip Tanner showed great burst on a run up the middle in team drills. Tanner has caught the attention of coaches early in camp while given more carries because of injuries to Tashard Choice and DeMarco Murray.

• LB DeMarcus Ware beat rookie tackle Tyron Smith (the first-round pick out of USC) again around the end and would have sacked QB Tony Romo. It's become a daily occurrence.

• WR Kevin Ogletree made a fingertip catch on a deep pass after beating his defender on a double move. WR Manuel Johnson had perhaps the catch of the day, however, on a one-handed grab on a deep pass over the middle. Ogletree and Johnson are competing for the Cowboys' third receiver spot.

• Backup LB Victor Butler made a nice read on a Tony Romo pass to the right flat, intercepting the ball as rookie WR Titus Ryan fell down before limping off.

• Starting kicker David Buehler missed another field goal (from 34 yards) to make him 11-for-15 through the first three days of camp. Meanwhile, undrafted rookie free agent kicker Dan Bailey (Oklahoma State) has made all 15 of his attempts.

It should be easy to push ratliff around, esp now that he's the size of a strongside end in a 4-3 lol
