Cowboys will re-sign WR Laurent Robinson

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By Tim MacMahon
The Cowboys plan to re-sign receiver Laurent Robinson.

Robinson was signed the week of the season opener but strained his hamstring during his second practice with the Cowboys. He was released last week to make room on the roster for fullback Tony Fiammetta.

The Cowboys still have a need for receiver depth, especially with Miles Austin expected to miss Monday night’s game due to a strained hamstring. Robinson has 89 catches for 1,000 yards and four touchdowns in his four-year NFL career.

“He’s ready to go. He’ll be out there,” owner/general manager Jerry Jones said Tuesday on KRLD-FM. “He’s someone that we [believe has] a lot of promise, but we won’t go outside our roster at receiver for anybody that will help us in a ballgame. Of course, we are really pleased with the way [Jesse] Holley stepped up.”

The Cowboys would have to make a roster move to create room for Robinson. It isn’t clear yet which player will be released.

I suspected this was going to happen.

He's already getting paid for the year. Might as well put him to work.

You'd think Harris would get his shot, but I like Robinson.

With Austin out we're looking at Bryant (hopefully), Ogletree, Holley and Harris.

No doubt we could use another receiver being as banged up as we are.

I hope they don't get rid of Fiammetta again. I like having an actual real live FB on the roster.

I'm actually glad to have both Fiammetta and Robinson back.

Fiametta's a badass in Madden.

I understand churing the bottom of the roster and support that mentality.. but this is just stupid. You don't churn the roster with the same two people for the entire season.

You do if you intended on bringing them back.

We signed the FB, he was here for 3 days, then we cut him for the WR. Then we cut the WR to bring the FB back. All i can say is if we cut the FB now to bring the WR back.. this is just stupidity.

Is it at all possible that... oh, I don't know... we're adjusting the roster to deal with injuries?

Neither player was ready to play anyways, so I don't see the big deal.

Was there anyone else that you expected us to sign? Remember, Jerry makes the final decision here.

Does Jerry make the final decision over this?

Like i said, churning the roster is a good thing, imo. However, i think the point of churning the bottom of the roster is to get looks at guys to see if they can make an impact. If you keep churning it with the same two players over and over again, it kind of devalues the point of the roster churning in the first place. My assumption this time is that another guy (hopefully) will be cut to make room for Robinson, and the FB will stay on the roster.

Also, its not really about who we expect us to sign. I don't think anyone saw Frank Walker on our radar and he came in, had only a couple practices with us and played a very solid game to help us shore up our secondary in his first week here. That was a nice suprise and really shows what value churning the bottom of the roster is meant to have, ideally.

They obviously churned it with the same two guys because of injuries. I dunno, your guess is as good as mine.

Fiametta IMO we play a role on this team this year. Maybe even Robinson at some point if our receivers keep dropping.

Frank Walker was a nice pickup, I agree.

Fiametta better play a role if we ever decide we want to have a running game to help our offense not be so predictable.

I would say Robinson has a great chance to step in at some point and take the 3 spot away from Ogletree.
