INDIANAPOLIS -- With the collective bargaining agreement ending Tuesday, the Cowboys have had recent discussions with the agents for guard Kyle Kosier and defensive end Stephen Bowen about new contracts.
Kosier, who just completed a five-year, $15 million deal, will be an unrestricted free agent regardless of the free agency system that is imposed. Bowen could be a restricted free agent for the second straight offseason if a new CBA is not reached, and the Cowboys will tender him an offer in the next few days should the 2010 system remain in place.
Kosier missed three games last year because of a knee injury, but he brings added value to the line because of the line calls he makes. He said late in the regular season that he would like to return to the Cowboys.
Bowen started eight of the last nine games in 2010, including seven at left end after Marcus Spears was lost for the season with a calf strain. Bowen finished with 25 tackles, 1.5 sacks, four tackles for loss and 12 quarterback pressures, showing he can be a full-time player after working in the sub packages for most of his first five seasons.
The chances of getting deals done are remote considering the uncertain labor future, but the team would like to keep both players if possible. The offensive and defensive lines could see a considerable shakeup in 2011 because of free agency (Jason Hatcher and Spears are also free agents) or possible cuts (Leonard Davis, Marc Colombo).
