Naw, I'd be kind of pumped. The guy is a huge playmaker. As bad as we suck in the red zone, maybe more 20+ yard TDs is the answer.

I don't have a lot of faith that Garrett would utilize him the best, though. He seems to struggle with anything outside the box.

At first I thought id be pissed. But we actually need a WR. Still rather go OL, but if both are gone, I'm ok w Tavon

Nice player, but isnt a position of need this year. We need OL and defensive pieces far more.

He's an exciting player, but you're absolutely right... Garrett wouldn't use him correctly.

I wouldn't poo poo the pick, depending on what we did the rest of the draft.

So we should draft for need? That ususally works. Remember when we passed on McCoy because we had Barber and Felix?

McCoy is a good palyer too, but drafting him that year would have been stupid.

You draft BPA at positions of need, not "draft for need"

There is such a thing as overkill. If you have a Tom Brady or Troy Aikman in the prime of their careers, does it make sense to use a #1 pick on a QB simply because that guy might be the highest rated player? If you have a pair of outstanding ILB's in a 3-4 defense, does it make sense to use a high pick on another ILB simply because he's the highest rated player? If we get on the clock at 18, and the highest rated player on our board this year is a CB, would that be smart to use the pick on that player?

Now if they get on the clock and Austin is the BPA and has a SIGNIFICANTLY higher rating than everyone else, maybe they pull the trigger. That said, I have a hard time believing he would and at that point, you'd be better off taking a player at another position if they had a similar rating (OL, DL or safety)

draftin McCoy would definitely NOT have been overkill...

We would have a RB right now that we could rely on

Thats 100% hindsight. It would have been stupid at the time and you and everyone else would have said so too.

At that time, Barber was still a good player and Jones looked like he would be pretty good, if not special too.

We couldnt' take McCoy because we gave Barber that ridiculous extension and we just took Felix Jones #1 the previous year.

And FJ showed promise his rookie year.

But we still made a mistake trading down when a number of talented trench players were available. Guess that's what happens when you go into a draft looking specifically for backups.

Tavon would be a great player to get the ball to on screens. But yeah, uh screens.....when was the last time we could run those successfully?

yeah I'd be a little mad about that. We have far greater needs on the OL and DL so if we drafted another WR I'd be mad about what I feel is a wasted pick.

Of course it wouldn't surprise me in the least either.
