Cowboys sign WR Laurent Robinson

The Dallas Cowboys signed wide receiver Laurent Robinson on Wednesday, providing insurance at a position that lacks veteran depth heading into the season.

Robinson, who caught 34 passes for 344 yards and two touchdowns for the San Diego Chargers last season, signed a one-year, $685,000 contract.

To make room on the 53-man roster, the Cowboys waived fullback Tony Fiammetta.

"There were two other teams that were really interested in him but when I mentioned the Dallas Cowboys, I could almost tell that his eyes were lighting up over the phone," agent Harold Lewis said.

Robinson caught the Cowboys' eye during during two days' worth of joint practices with the Chargers during training camp.

He provides a game-ready alternative for the Cowboys when needed, as the Cowboys run an offense very similar to Norv Turner's attack with the Chargers

Also, I'm suprised we made this move this week. I figured it would come after week 1 to avoid that whole guaranteed salary thing.

I wonder if there are designs for him to be active on game day that neccessitated him coming in now.

Sounds like he had a few teams interested, so we may have had to move pretty quick. Playing in Norv's system, there's alot of similarities to what we do with routes so he could probably be active this weekend.

I feel better about the signing. I've kind of cooled on Ogletree. Personally, I'd rather start Holley at the #3 over Ogletree.

Fiametta must not be completely healthy.....I thought they were signing him to stash him on ir for next year...

Maybe he will be brought back next week.....still I don't see how he is healthy enough to contribute...

Rucker was with the first unit punt teams at pratice this morning....so must be he is going to be active Sunday...

2nd, they sign a fullback from another team, whose stats amount to nothing
3rd, now they release said FB after two days, to sign a WR who has taken 5 years to reach 1000 receiving yards and 4 touch downs.
