Cowboys add safety Andrew Sendejo to practice squad

Todd Archer / Reporter

The Cowboys have signed safety Andrew Sendejo to the practice squad and will cut fullback/defensive end Alex Daniels.

Sendejo, 6-1, 225 pounds, played for Sacramento of the UFL for coach Dennis Green after playing four years at Rice. An injury cut short his senior season but he had 318 tackles, two sacks, seven forced fumbles and nine interceptions for his career.

For the Mountain Lions, Sendejo had a league-high 48 tackles to go with seven pass deflections and two interceptions.

Sendejo had tryouts with Tampa Bay and New Orleans after he was not picked in last April's draft.

"Being from Texas everyone's a Cowboy fan, that's why it's kind of surreal being here," said Sendejo, who grew up in Spring Branch. "I'm going to try and enjoy it and do what I can."

Because Sendejo has been signed to the practice squad the Cowboys do not have to pay the UFL a $150,000 transfer fee.

What really jumps out about him in the 2 vids are that he's really smart, so that there's no wasted motion, making him run faster than his 40 time would lead you to believe, and he can hit. Also wraps up well.

I don't understand the signing.

With Alan Ball and Sensabaugh, we're pretty much set at safety for the next ten years. Maybe twenty.
