The silver linings from Saturday's last-second loss to the Arizona Cardinals were far and few. But if there was one player that stood out, it was third-string quarterback Stephen McGee.
The former Texas A&M quarterback was extremely efficient, going 11/17 for 111 yards and a touchdown while filling in for the injured Jon Kitna. McGee will get another chance to prove his worth to the team next weekend with Kitna on the self.
The Cowboys' backup quarterback is likely out with a strained abdominal muscle. "I think it's doubtful from what I heard in there that we're going to have Jon back," Jerry Jones said after the game. "The trainers didn't give me any encouragement."
With Tony Romo and Kitna both out for the final game of the season, the Cowboys had to go out and make a late quarterback addition to the team, adding former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Chris Greisen to the squad for the game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
As the Green Bay Press-Gazette noted, Greisen has been playing recently with the Milwaukee Iron of the Arena Football League, and with the Florida Tuskers of the United Football League. His last stint in the NFL was in 2001.
He received the call from Dallas Cowboys pro scouting coodinator Will McClay on Sunday while he was at a Christmas party with his family. It was at that point that Greisen received the best present of all: a chance to play for the Dallas Cowboys.
Even if it is for just one game, Greisen said he'll try and make the most of the opportunity.
"You know, a couple times it crept into my mind, 'Well, do they want to sign me for next year?" Greisen told the Press-Gazette. "That will take care of itself. This week, I'm concentrating on being the best Dallas Cowboy I can and help the team if they need me.
"Now I have to learn the cadence. I have to learn the offense. All those types of things. All that other stuff, the nostalgic stuff, can come later."
