The Cowboys responded Wednesday to a Sports Illustrated story that detailed owner Jerry Jones' involvement in the negotiations between the NFL Players Association and the league that took place earlier this month.
In an article published in the March 21 issue, writer Jim Trotter describes a scene during which Jones explains to a group of players that he and the other owners were serious about imposing a lockout before bringing his fists together to emphasize the point. Then, according to the account, he stood up to leave and walked toward the door.
Although it was never written that Jones, in fact, left the room, Cowboys spokesman Rich Dalrymple wanted to make it absolutely clear that he didn't. In an email, Dalrymple also wrote that Jones wasn't trying to initiate a walkout -- an implication that seemed to be made in the article.
"A lot of people were reading into that story that Jerry walked out of the room and that simply wasn't the case," Dalrymple said. "He never left the room, and he wasn't trying to orchestrate anything. I guess the story was that Jerry Jones can become animated when trying to make a point. That's not news to anyone around here."
