Cowboys receivers coach Ray Sherman says stop judging rookie receiver Dez Bryant and let him grow up

Cowboys receivers coach Ray Sherman thinks all the talk about rookie receiver Dez Bryant’s sideline antics and emotional outbursts against the Saints are much ado about nothing.

Sherman said Bryant is a emotional player but he is not out of control. And he was not a distraction to his teammates against the Saints. He said there is nothing wrong with Bryant’s emotions or his play.

“Dez is fine,” Sherman said. “He is an emotional player. I like guys who are passionate. I don’t have a problem with a guy showing passion. I have had a lot of guys with passion. Trust me you put the ball in their hands they can do something with it.”

Sherman’s resume includes tutoring the likes of Jerry Rice, Chris Carter, Randy Moss and Terrell Owens. He said he doesn’t have a problem with working with guys who are emotional and passionate.

“You have know how to work with guys like that,” Sherman said. “What’s wrong with being passionate. That doesn’t bother me. I don’t have a problem with guys like that.”

While Sherman said Bryant has played as well as any rookie this year, he said the fact is that he is still a rookie. He will make mistakes. He is young. He still has some growing and maturing to do.

In addition to Bryant still learning the offense he has been tardy to a few meetings, though the latter has improved over the course of the season.

Sherman said people should quite judging him and let him grow and develop like any other rookie.

“Let the kid grow up,” Sherman said. “Sure he is going to make mistakes. He is a rookie. People are trying to judge everything he does. Let him be a rookie. He is getting better. He is going to get better each week.”

Alright, enough with Dez-gate *not you guys, just speaking out loud to the media in general* He blew up on the sidelines, it was wrong, let it go, if he does it again, shame on Dez then.

Big shit. Irvin did it. I think too many are far too concerned with this.

I thought the same thing about the Miami/Hooker fiasco.

But Dez was already a lightning rod for the press. When he became a Cowboy that just took it to another level.

Depends on what he's saying.

Irvin was demonstrative on the field, but I never thought it was in a divisive way. The comments of his teammates back that up.

I also don't remember Mike ever grandstanding like that as a rookie. Sometimes it's hard to take that from a guy who has just entered the league.

If Dez starts accusing Romo and Witten of scheming against him, then we know to get worried.

There isn't a better coach to handle him than Ray Sherman. So we got that working for us.

These are different times and different players. Ray got him calmed down. I think it is just because he is a Cowboy , this is news.

And yes, Bob. The coaches are way too concerned with explaining it away
