The Cowboys don't approach the draft any differently with a top 10 pick. But it does give them a level of certainty they don't get when they draft late in the first round.

The club can interview up to 60 players in the 15-minute sessions that are conducted over the course of the next four evenings. The top players the Cowboys have their eye on will likely spend that time with head coach Jason Garrett, owner Jerry Jones and his son, Stephen Jones.

There are fewer options for the ninth pick of the April draft than there are at No. 24, which is where the Cowboys selected last year. That makes it easier for the traveling party to target and sit down for that first interview with the player they will select.

"You're able to zero in on it a little better,'' Stephen Jones said. "As you get further down, you know a whole lot less.

"But you don't want to put numbers on those things too early. You want to leave room for the guys who can surprise you. You may say right now there is no way that guy will be there when we pick, but he might be. While we're here, we want to talk to him.''

It feels comforting to know the Jones' are there to interview these players.
