All indications are that Pro Bowl punter Mat McBriar had successful surgery in January to remove a cyst from his leg that had caused drop foot last season.
However it may not be enough to save his job with the Cowboys who are prepared to go into 2012 with Chris Jones as their punter.

Jones averaged 42.6 yards per punt in tow games in place of the injured McBriar last season.
The Cowboys tipped their hand by signing him a three-year deal right before the 2011 season final.
According to a source, the Cowboys think Jones has the potential to be special beyond the fact that he is a safer and cheaper option than McBriar right now.

The Cowboys certainly appreciate what McBriar has given them the last few years. They know when he is right he is a bonafide weapon and as good as any punter in the league.
The Cowboys might bring him back to training camp.

But right now re-signing McBriar, who is an unrestricted free agent, is not a top priority.

Pretty funny that they are willing to move on fast from a Pro Bowl P. But dread the thought of losing Anthony Spencer, Orlando Scandrick, Gerald Sensabaugh et al.
