GLENDALE, Ariz. – In the first two preseason games the Cowboys mostly used Gavin Escobar as an on-the-line tight end to test his blocking ability.

Escobar had some rocky moments, but in Saturday’s 12-7 loss at Arizona, Escobar, the Cowboys’ second-round pick, lined up on the line, as the H-back, in the backfield and split out wide. He caught all five passes thrown his way for 32 yards and the Cowboys’ only touchdown.

“I thought Bill (Callahan) did a really good job of getting him the ball in the second half of the game, just giving him some opportunities,” coach Jason Garrett said.

Three of Escobar’s catches from Alex Tanney came on the TD drive. He carried a defender on a 10-yard gain, slipped through another for a 4-yard pick up on a third down and then squeezed over the goal line with defenders closing.

“It’s good to see Escobar step in here and have a good night,” owner and general manager Jerry Jones said.

He was better yesterday. It was good to see them get him involved in the passing game some. Still needs to work on his blocking.

2nd round picks should be contributors. This guy is not even Anthony Fasano.

But hey, nice to see Bill get him involved, and Jerry's happy, so there is that.

How many rushing yards did we have yesterday? 30? 40? That is what matters to me when Ronaldo Escobario lines up in the backfield. He blocks like Dbair posts. Terrible.

Mackenzey Bernadeau will be pushed into Romo and put on her ass during run plays, but at least we'll have a 2nd round TE behind Witten.

Why would we pick someone who can't block and has no speed? I can live with the shitty blocking so long as he's a Jimmy Graham type stretching the field, but he's not.

Nope. We will ship him off for a 6th round pick with three years. Mark. It. Down. Trump.

San Francisco wanted him and publicly told the other NFL teams that they were going to trade up and get him, so you know we had to trade up and get him.

I wonder if teams just F with Jerry. Hey, watch this. Call the Cowboys. Tell Jerry we want to trade up and get this Safety from a Canadian trade school. Next pick, Cowboys select Francais De Luka, "athlete" from CTS in Saskatchewan. Works every time.

You shut up. We're all tired of taking tight ends in the second round when our line sucks.

Pleased with 6 yards per catch?

Christ, if it was any lower he'd damn near be taking a handoff.

Arnt you one of these guys that drools all over Danny Amendola (that's WIDE RECEIVER Danny Amendola) and his FB like 8.8 yds per reception?

Did they set out Gavin on many long routes? Seems like he was used as a safety valve for Tanney's inexperience reading defenses, and little routes to get him some reps catching the ball in game situations.
