David Buehler enjoyed a bit of redemption Sunday.

After missing a field goal in each of his first two games, head coach Wade Phillips faced repeated questions about why the Cowboys didn't replace the unproven kicker. Buehler went 1-of-5 in Wednesday's practice and the howls for his job grew, prompting Phillips to launch into a support of his kicker the next day before he was even asked.

Buehler responded with field goals of 49 and 40 yards in the win over the Texans, showing the leg and competitive drive that has convinced the Cowboys to stand behind him.

"I just tuned everybody out and did what I had to do,'' Buehler said of the swirling criticism. "I worked hard. Everybody (with the Cowboys) had faith in me and I had faith in myself.

"I just had to go out there and prove it.''

Good game, but I remain unconvinced that he's going to be a reliable kicker down the stretch.

Has the mechanics part of his kicking taken away what he does on KO's? I'll trade the touchbacks for reliable fg attempts, just wondering if you guys think that's it.

It looks to me like no neck has him doing more directional kicking than in the past.

I still think he's hurt. He was crushing the ball all preseason, I dont remember more than 1 or 2 kicks being returned. In fact it was a joke in one broadcast where they were saying Coach D was gonna have no clue about his coverage team because every kickoff was a touchback almost all preseason.

We went for it on 4th and 2 from the Texans' 29 yard-line and failed to convert. That is just as good as a missed field goal when you have zero faith in your kicker.

That right there to me shows how much faith they have in Buehler.....
