David Buehler enjoyed a bit of redemption Sunday.
After missing a field goal in each of his first two games, head coach Wade Phillips faced repeated questions about why the Cowboys didn't replace the unproven kicker. Buehler went 1-of-5 in Wednesday's practice and the howls for his job grew, prompting Phillips to launch into a support of his kicker the next day before he was even asked.
Buehler responded with field goals of 49 and 40 yards in the win over the Texans, showing the leg and competitive drive that has convinced the Cowboys to stand behind him.
"I just tuned everybody out and did what I had to do,'' Buehler said of the swirling criticism. "I worked hard. Everybody (with the Cowboys) had faith in me and I had faith in myself.
"I just had to go out there and prove it.''
