Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday morning on his weekly KRLD-FM radio show that wide receiver Miles Austin won’t likely play Monday night in the team’s home opener against Washington.
Austin re-aggravated a left hamstring injury Sunday at San Francisco that he had hurt during training camp in August. The injury could sideline him through the Cowboys’ bye week if it doesn’t improve significantly over the next few weeks.
“I’m probably negative on Miles getting to play [against Washington],” Jones said.
Jones said that the Cowboys almost held Austin out of the San Francisco game, calling him “almost a game-time decision,” Sunday because he went into the game with a sore hamstring.
Austin said after Sunday’s game that his hamstring was sore throughout the game. He further aggravated his hamstring on the Cowboys’ final play of regulation on a two-yard loss on a running play. He left the field clutching his hamstring and didn’t return to play in overtime of the Cowboys’ 27-24 win.
