IRVING, Texas -- With a settlement between the NFL and the players reached on Monday, Jason Witten, DeMarcus Ware and Bradie James, the Cowboys’ player representatives, can finally answer questions about football again.

Brooking Witten “It was a long process we had to go through to get to this point, but we’re glad football will be back," said Witten, who was on the conference call Monday with James and the other player reps across the league. "I’m glad it’s over so now we can focus on playing.”

Among the players reached, the consistent theme was the same.

“I’ve been working out every day and I’m ready to get this thing started,” wide receiver Miles Austin said.

The Cowboys held practices in May, led by Tony Romo, Witten, James, Ware, Terence Newman and Marc Colombo, with more than 40 players present. If a settlement had not been reached, Romo said he would help organize more practices in the immediate future.

Since the end of May, players have been working out on their own in smaller groups from Southlake to McKinney and in their hometowns.

“We had good work as a group, and I think we’ll see a benefit to it as we get going here pretty quick,” Witten said.

Football is not officially back until a Favre press conference signing his lifetime contract with the NFL.
