Second-year linebacker Victor Butler was inactive for the first time in his career for the Dallas Cowboys' loss to Philadelphia on Dec. 12. The Cowboys got Butler's attention with the one-game benching.

Butler returned to the active roster for Sunday's win over Washington and played well. He participated in a season-high three tackles and had a fourth-quarter sack.

``I was glad to be playing,'' Butler said. ``I wanted to be wearing this uniform.''

That was the response the Cowboys wanted.

``You always want players to be at their best,'' interim head coach Jason Garrett said. ``We thought it was the right decision to put him down last week. He certainly came back in practice and did well this week. I think he played better this week.''

Yeah. Why try it with a marginal player and by marginal, I'm not saying that Butler is a marginally-talented player---I think he's quite talented, but this needs to be done with someone that matters.

Newman deserves this treatment.

Hopefully he's a goner.

I would have done it to Barber too.

I like how we did it to Romo.

Romo was all like "Yo my shoulder fine B" but the team was all like "Yeah, whatev. Kitna FTW."

Strong message that hopefully Romo picks up on. If so, he ought to be able to lead us to a championship.

Davis looks like a tough version of Kimbo Slice.

I wouldn't want to be the guy to tell him he's benched.

Does anyone know exactly what Butler did wrong?

I've been wondering the same thing. It could have had something to do with effort on special teams or maybe missed assignments in his limited role.

On the other hand, for as little as we know about the guy, he may be a lazy practice player and an easy target for Garrett to make an example of.
