By Calvin Watkins

The Cowboys had plans to offer a tender to only one restricted free agent, fullback Tony Fiammetta.

That has now changed according to a source, because the team is now working on a new multi-year contract with Fiammetta.

The Cowboys were expected to give Fiammetta a tender offer of $1.26 million, which would also give the team the right of first refusal. If a team matched the tender, the Cowboys would pick up a fourth-round pick because that's the round Fiammetta was drafted in by Carolina in 2009.

Fiammetta played in 10 games last season, but he was viewed as a valuable asset to the running game. Starting running back DeMarco Murray praised the blocking of Fiammetta during the season.

A health scare cost Fiammetta three games in late November/early December. He was diagnosed with an inner-ear infection. There was some uncertainty about bringing Fiammetta back due to this health issue, but once the Cowboys' medical staff deemed Fiammetta was physically fit to play, the team felt it best to bring him back long-term.

hopefully the market for him isn't great and he comes crawling back. If we were offering him fair money that's a ballsy move for a dying position, and him with like....a body of 8 games of work. Bad advice from his agent imo.

We paid him for 16 games and he only played half plus we were the team that resurrected his career. I hope he remembers that.

Hard to believe a guy with some mystery illness is going to be the talk of the town.

He should have waited a few days to test the market.

Has a FB ever been signed within the 1st week of free agency?

Did a nice job in most games, but he has never been able to stay healthy.

Now apparently he is pisaed that he didnt get the RFA tender at all. Yawn. Players who can play only half the time dont usually get top notch $$

Will be interesting to see what the market for him is, although I'm a firm believer that Shaun Chapas will be a legit NFL FB
