ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Cowboys had a chance to turn a blowout into a close game in the late stages of the first half on Sunday against Jacksonville.
Faced with a third-and-goal at the Jaguars 1, Barber was stopped for no gain going off the right guard. After a Cowboys timeout with 11 seconds left, Barber got the ball again but ran into Jon Kitna at the handoff and was stopped for no gain with five seconds left. This time, he went to the left side.
Barber couldn't punch it in. The play was reviewed and the replay official upheld the call.
So instead of the Cowboys trailing 14-10 at the half, they remained down 14-3.
"We've had one of the best short-yardage guys in the league," Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said. "And we had two chances at it so, we didn't get it done."
Barber wasn't available for comment after the game, but Kitna said running into Barber disrupted the play.
"I'm not exactly sure what happened," Kitna said. "I'm going to have to watch the tape. I had a collision before the handoff that knocked me into Marion to where he needed to go, which disrupted the whole play. You have about a 1 percent chance of succeeding at that point."
