Veteran running back Sammy Morris will visit Valley Ranch on Tuesday and is expected to sign with the Cowboys, according to a source.

Morris, who once played at Texas Tech, will buttress a thinning backfield rotation that lost starter DeMarco Murray to a season-ending ankle injury on Sunday during the Cowboys' 37-34 defeat to the New York Giants.

Morris, 34, last played in an NFL regular -season game in 2010 with the New England Patriots, who released him this past Semptember. After being selected by Buffalo in the fifth round of the 2000 NFL Draft, Morris has cobbled together a productive career. In 11 seasons, he has rushed for 2,955 yards and 26 touchdowns on 708 carries.

With Murray sidelined, Felix Jones was the only tailback on the roster. Only days before, rookie reserve Phillip Tanner had been placed on injured reserve. Once Morris joins the Cowboys, he is expected to serve as Jones' backup.

Was Adrian Murray not available?

We should've just waited a few days. Surely the Bears are going to cut Barber.

Larry Johnson would make more sense. 2 years younger, thought he looked decent for Miami in pre-season.

Chauncey Washington is on the practice squad, was hoping they'd just give him a shot. Would be a nice, physical short yardage back who could take 6-8 carries or so a week.

I would of taken a look at Clinton Portis. I know I'll catch hell for this but we have two divisional games left.

Portis would be a decent 3rd and short option. Oh well hopefully Morris can contribute.

I think we should sign another back as well.

Lets face it... FJ is about as reliable as Murray. He pulls a hammy, and we're stuck with just Morris.
