Cowboys don’t think highly of Nick Fairley
Posted by Michael David Smith on April 22, 2011, 7:05 PM EDT
There are two schools of thought on Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley: Some think he was among the truly elite defensive players in college football last season, will be a dominant force at the next level and should be in consideration to be the first overall pick in the draft. Others think he’s an irresponsible young man with a questionable work ethic.
Put the Cowboys into the latter camp.
Matt Mosley, a Dallas-based reporter for FOXSports.com, writes that not only would the Cowboys not take Fairley with their first-round pick, they likely wouldn’t even take him in the second round.
“I can say with conviction that the Cowboys want no part of Fairley,” Mosely writes in his latest mock draft. “There’s simply no belief at Valley Ranch that Fairley would come close to reaching his immense potential.”
All it takes is one team to like Fairley, and considering how productive he was last season at Auburn, it’s easy to see one team liking Fairley enough to pick him high in the first round. But it’s also clear that a lot of teams don’t think Fairley is the kind of player they want.
