Cowboys don’t think highly of Nick Fairley

Posted by Michael David Smith on April 22, 2011, 7:05 PM EDT

There are two schools of thought on Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley: Some think he was among the truly elite defensive players in college football last season, will be a dominant force at the next level and should be in consideration to be the first overall pick in the draft. Others think he’s an irresponsible young man with a questionable work ethic.

Put the Cowboys into the latter camp.

Matt Mosley, a Dallas-based reporter for FOXSports.com, writes that not only would the Cowboys not take Fairley with their first-round pick, they likely wouldn’t even take him in the second round.

“I can say with conviction that the Cowboys want no part of Fairley,” Mosely writes in his latest mock draft. “There’s simply no belief at Valley Ranch that Fairley would come close to reaching his immense potential.”

All it takes is one team to like Fairley, and considering how productive he was last season at Auburn, it’s easy to see one team liking Fairley enough to pick him high in the first round. But it’s also clear that a lot of teams don’t think Fairley is the kind of player they want.

Which pretty much bodes well for Nick. We're not exactly the team you go to to get an accurate take on a guy's NFL future.

Why we want to add another lazy player to our already chock full lazy defense?

But he's the talentedsz1!! Heh, so was Pac Man Jones.

Only thing that's gonna suck is if he does reach his potential, this could come back to haunt us. It would be another Randy Moss storyline all over again.

It wouldn't. The Randy Moss thing became the Randy Moss thing because we promised him we'd take him, and he made it very clear to anyone who would listen that we held a grudge. Afterall, we told his mom we'd draft him, or something like that. Oh, and everytime he played us, he lit up the scoreboard.

I never understood how the Titans didn't catch more crap. They took a receiver over Moss, and that receiver came about 6" short of a game tying SB touchdown. Moss gets in on that play.

Regarding Fairley... there's a few red flags. I find the "we wouldn't take him in the 2nd" line to be a little unbelievable.

Point is, Randy Moss had it in for us emotionally. Fairly could take this and use it as motivation too. Then all'd we hear about is, "Fairley is a monster because the Cowboys dissed him pre-draft, wouldn't take him in the 2nd round? HUFF"- sbk.

Its not gonna happen but IF Nick Fairley falls to our 2nd rounder we better not pass on him... I don't give a shit how bad they think his work ethic or attitude is. He's a major steal at that point.

Fairley may not be as bright as teams would like, but he's my black man version of Bobby Booshay.
