Cowboys: Bryant trade report 'totally wrong'

Cowboys VP Stephen Jones strongly refuted a report that the team would "think about" entertaining offers for Dez Bryant this offseason.
Jones called the report "totally wrong," making it clear that he and his father (owner Jerry Jones) have no intention of dealing Bryant. The hypothetical trade scenario has been overblown from the beginning, deriving from Patrick Crayton's barbs on a local radio program. Not only is Bryant safe from a trade out of Dallas, he's one of the franchise's key building blocks.

But....but.....but....

I thought Jason Garrett made those calls now?

I'm sure Garrett was onboard. Doesn't mean anything just because he didn't comment.

He said neither he or his father have any intention of dealing Bryant.

Two weeks after telling us Jason Garrett has the final say on personnel.

It's hard to be a really good liar.

Per vice president Stephen Jones, any reports of the Cowboys thinking about trading Dez Bryant are "totally wrong"

What first started out as a hypothetical on local ESPN radio turned into a quasi story when when ESPN-Dallas reported a member of the Cowboys front offce saying he would think about trading rookie receiver Dez Bryant if they got a first round pick in return.

Well, if you know anything about the Cowboys then you know the only opinions that count in the front office are from owner Jerry Jones and vice-president Stephen Jones.

Those two men have no thoughts or intentions of moving Bryant.

When asked about the report about Bryant, Stephen Jones sent a reply back saying it was "totally wrong."

And why would they trade Bryant even for a first round pick?

For all the trouble he supposedly caused last season _ at least that's of the point of view of former receiver Patrick Crayton whose shots at Bryant during a radio interview set the wheels in motion for the embellished trade talk _ Bryant is an unquestioned game breaker.

Despite an injured plagued season that began him slowed by an ankle sprain in training camp and ended with him missing the last four games with a broken ankle, he still caught 45 passes for 561 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games. He scored two more touchdowns on punt returns.

For the doom and gloom at Valley Ranch during the team's 6-10 season, Bryant was easily one of the few bright spots.

The Cowboys need to acquire more talent. But they don't need to get rid of any young talent that is as good and as promising as any in the league.

No, they don't need to trade him. I would still entertain all offers though.

But they absolutely do need to make him work like every other player on the team.

I thought it was pathetic that he stopped attending team meetings when he got hurt. It shows something lacking in the guy. And I think that will always hold him back from being as good as he could be.

Michael Irvin would have never missed those meetings. Especially in his rookie year.

Like I said before, I hope Dez hates the new WR coach. I want someone who is constantly on his ass to work harder than he ever did before and doesn't give two shats about the name Dez Bryant.

So basically a radio station bandied this around and it created a firestorm. Gaw, Cowboy fans are dumb.

Depends on if you believe Watkins lied when he said he talked to someone in the front office who said they would consider it.

I highly doubt he would lie about it. And I don't see the issue. They should consider trading every player on their team every year. It's not on their priority list. It might not even be something they'd look into. But they should always be open to listening to all trade offers.

Who the hell is Dez Bryant to warrant this kind of backlash anyway?

You only need to remember the Herschel Walker trade to realize what trading a player like Dez could do for a team. We've done it before but I doubt we could ever get that same type of trade these days.

No,that probably wouldn't ever happen again.

Or Ditka trading his whole draft for Ricky Williams.

But there are fools in every market.
