The Dallas Cowboys are one of only two teams drafting inside the top 10 that are not scheduled to meet with Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley.
The Houston Chronicle reported Friday that Fairley is set to visit the Panthers, Broncos, Bills, Bengals, Browns, 49ers, Titans and Redskins. That leaves the Cowboys at No. 9 and the Cardinals at No. 5 as the only teams not showing interest in the top 10.
The Cowboys probably have little chance of landing Fairley at No. 9, however, in late February, Cowboys general manager and owner Jerry Jones said he wouldn’t dismiss drafting any player in April’s draft.
When asked about interviewing Fairley’s former college teammate, quarterback Cam Newton, Jones said: "I wouldn't dismiss any player that's going to be in that draft and wouldn't express interest. So much happens with the circumstances that are there, not only on draft day but how we continue our process.”
The Lombardi Award winner recorded 11.5 sacks and 24 tackles for loss last season while helping the Auburn Tigers win the BCS National Championship.
When asked about critics that question his impact on the NFL, Fairley told the Houston paper that “folks are entitled to their opinions.”
Added Fairley: “A lot of people think I play the game the way it should be played. I don't play this game because I have to. I play because I love it. I worked hard to accomplish what I did, and I'll work hard in the NFL. I'll dedicate myself to my new team on and off the field. I'll play any position and any system, whether it's inside or outside in a 4-3 or a 3-4.”
He was also asked about taking plays off in the past and being called a dirty player.
"If they don't draft me, I'll show them how many plays I take off," Fairley said. "I've never had a coach complain about the way I play. I play hard, and I try to be as physical as I can be. I just want a chance to play in the NFL. I want a chance to showcase my talent for one of 32 teams.
"I realize I've got a lot to learn, and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to be great. I want to be a disruptive player. I want to be the guy the defense looks to when a play needs to be made. I think I can be a great run stopper and pass rusher. I'll work hard to make plays from sideline to sideline."
