By Calvin Watkins

The Dallas Cowboys announced the hires of Bill Callahan and Jerome Henderson to the coaching staff on Thursday.

Callahan has been named the offensive coordinator/offensive line coach. Henderson is the secondary coach.

The Callahan move is interesting because he replaced long-time assistant coach Hudson Houck, who retired this week. Callahan was named the offensive coordinator but it's not known if he'll call plays, something Jason Garrett has done since joining the Cowboys.

Houck was the running game coordinator and Garrett's brother, John, was the tight ends coach/passing game coordinator.

Callahan spent the last four seasons as the assistant head coach/offensive line coach with the New York Jets and has been a former head coach, leading the Oakland Raiders to Super Bowl XXXVI.

Henderson, who replaces Dave Campo, spent the last three seasons with the Cleveland Browns.

LOL. Then why didn't they just do this for Sparano? I'm fine with Cal, but... nevermind. It will not mean a damn thing if Garrett still calls the plays.

thats it.

Sporano wants the title and the control of calling plays.

I got the impression last year that john garrett was going to be our defacto coordinator with jason calling plays.

Yeah, I really don't think Garrett is going to turn play calling over to someone he's never worked with before.

But I am glad we're going away from the Running Game Coordinator/Passing Game Coordinator.

Callahan will help out with the game planning and Jason will call the plays during the game.

It's pretty much just a title to shut up the fans.

Callahan will bring alot of new ideas in, and he was Jon Gruden's offensive coordinator in Oakland before he took over as HC (and called his own plays) there too.

Even if he doesn't call the plays, at least now there is one guy coordinating the offense, as opposed to having a running game coordinator and a passing game coordinator. That was just a pointless way of organizing things, imo.

Parcells did it this way here for awhile.

Tom Landry could've done it that way, and he could've won Super Bowl's having done it that way.. wouldn't change the fact that it just seems like a pointless and almost counterproductive division of labor.
