From Monday to Wednesday, there might have been nearly 30 representatives of the Cowboys here in Mobile, Ala., from Jerry and Stephen Jones, to Jason Garrett and scouting director Tom Ciskowski and some of his college staff.
But as of Thursday, most of the teams are long gone, although the Senior Bowl game itself isn’t until Saturday afternoon at Ladd-Peebles Stadium here in Mobile.
This year is no different, that’s just the way it always goes. Teams fly down either Sunday or early Monday and visit with the players, and other coaches – shake a lot of hands and be seen, and then by Wednesday or Thursday, it’s over.
Remember, every snap – either from practice or the games – are on tape and film that each team will receive.
So the important part is to be here and catch a short glimpse of these guys, and then take off.
Of course, for Jerry Jones, he’s got something pretty big waiting for him back in Dallas. So you knew he wasn’t going to stay too long. But Jones did say it’s better to be here than to watch everything on tape.
“I like to really just get a feel for the whole team concept, looking at it individually and how they’re competing with competition that you can measure, too,” Jones said this week. “I like to see how they’re adapting to professional coaching and professional concepts. And so it is good for me just to see these players in the broad concept of the whole field, the team. I get to see how they’re operating, the energy, the speed, how they’re practicing with the speed of the overall group. We will obviously have tape of every player."
"Everything they do out here. But this experience is one that I wouldn’t want to miss because it gives you the whole picture context."
