Could Washington Redskins become Washington Bravehearts?

In recent weeks Redskins owner Dan Snyder has seemed to warm up to the idea of changing the Redskins name. So the report that a wealthy neighbor of his applied for a patent to lock down the name Washington Bravehearts is more than a little spicy.

According to TMZ, Aris Mardirossian, "a wealthy patent investor" who lives "a few doors down" from Dan Snyder, registered the name "WASHINGTON BRAVEHEARTS" on Oct. 17.

CBSSports.com has also learned Mardirossian registered the domain WashingtonBravehearts.com on October 18.

The patent license, per TMZ, is for "entertainment in the nature of football games."

TMZ also obtained the LLC filings (.PDF) for Washington Brave Hearts, LLC.

First impressions of this: What a potentially awesome move. Bravehearts is a sick name and -- unless I'm totally insensitive -- not offensive. It maintains much of the same sense of the name Redskins, but gets rid of the whole, pesky, we're-offending-an-entire-culture thing.

Remember that Snyder recently hired a PR dude who specializes in crisis management. He knows the lay of the land.

Will you remember where you were when TMZ broke the story of the Redskins changing their name to Bravehearts? Probably not. Maybe this is all smoke and no fire but what a freaking world we live in.

Was a good movie though.

Was, it was a great movie, was.

The thing is basically 4 hours long an unwatchable these days. It's battle scenes have been used by every movie since, and they have lost that edge which made them special, and everyone forgets the boring monotony that made up the rest of the movie.

Gladiator is so much better today it makes me ashamed I spent all those hours arguing brave heart was better, in highschool.

The Bravehearts is a "sick" nickname? I think it's about as bad as that weight loss thread.

And won't people just abbreviate it to the Braves... They should just call themselves that. Who cares about the ATL baseball team.

They need to clean up their reservations. Then we can talk about the name of a football team.

Nobody is looking for your approval on the matter. The name is gonna change at some point and you'll have no say in the matter.

Might as well just get used to it.

Can they please clean up their drug infested, poverty stricken reservations that tax payers support before they throw a fit about about the name of an NFL team?

Is that too much to ask?

You can't complain about the reservations being drug infested and poverty stricken until the rest of the drug infested and poverty stricken country is fixed.

Yeah I can. If they want to live apart from society and tell society how it needs to operate then I can do the same to them since my tax dollars go towards supporting them.

It's 2013, almost 2014 BTW. How much longer are they going to need assistance?
