That hasn't happened in each of the past three years, a direct indication of the Cowboys' overall talent and roster stability. But it's conceivable that all eight 2011 draft picks will be on the 53-man roster.

The top four selections -- Tyron Smith, Bruce Carter, DeMarco Murray and David Arkin -- are locks. The Cowboys are looking for depth and eventual replacements in the secondary, so fifth-round cornerback Josh Thomas has a shot. Sixth-rounder Dwayne Harris could fill a need as a slot receiver/kick returner. Seventh-rounder Shaun Chapas will be get a legit chance to win the fullback job, and Bill Nagy could play his way onto the roster as a backup interior lineman, particularly if a veteran like free agent Kyle Kosier isn't brought back.

In recent years, the Cowboys kept every draft pick in 2000, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. The roster was being rebuilt in the early 2000s, and although the team had become playoff contenders by the middle of the decade, Bill Parcells was still adding pieces, particularly for his revamped 3-4 defense.

Jerry Jones has said he doesn't believe this particular team is rebuilding. But it's apparent there are jobs up for grabs, and at the very least, competition is something Jason Garrett wants at all positions.

I think Nagy's going to the practice squad.

If one other didn't make it, I'd pick Chapas.
