The Cowboys coaching search takes us to Miami Dolphins assistant coach Todd Bowles, who is scheduled to interview today at Valley Ranch.

Bowles is familiar with the Cowboys organization, having worked there from 2005-to-2007 as the secondary coach. Bowles was hired by former coach Bill Parcells so he has a full grasp of the 3-4 defense.

Unlike Parcells' 3-4 scheme which was very conservative, Bowles' version of it would be more aggressive where he will allow players such as DeMarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer to rush the passer more than Paul Pasqualoni.

Now we're not saying Bowles is going to be a defensive coordinator, though it could happen if he's let go in Miami like the rest of that staff, but we're sure Jerry Jones will talk with him regarding how he would fix the defense.

Bowles already has a good relationship with some of the players, including cornerback Terence Newman and it would seem he would try and hire Kasey Rodgers as his defensive line coach. Rodgers is a favorite of several linemen such as Jay Ratliff, Jason Hatcher and Marcus Spears. Rodgers coached here 2003-to-2007.

Bowles has a easy going personality and that jives with quarterback Tony Romo, running back Felix Jones among others on the offensive side.

It's doubtful Bowles will get the job to become the head coach but when he spoke with Jones in 2007 about the gig, Cowboys officials came away impressed.

We're sure Bowles will do well here again, but the key is for Jones to find out just what he'll do with the defense.

On Tuesday, Ray Sherman, the wide receivers coach, spoke with the Cowboys and had a good interview. Sherman is in the last year of his deal and he wants to remain here, but he might get a job elsewhere if Garrett decides not to re-sign him, should he get the job.

Well, I like reading that.

Curious to know where Watkins is getting this information though. Bowells has never run his own defense, so how would Watkins know how Bowells would run one?
