Dallas Cowboys owner-general manager Jerry Jones today indicated that running back Tashard Choice will receive extended playing time for the remainder of the season.
Choice, replacing the injured Marion Barber, had 19 carries for 100 yards in last Sunday's overtime win at Indianapolis. Choice had only 14 runs for 38 yards in the previous 11 games.
``The facts are that he (Choice) has probably stepped up and earned himself a chance to get a lot of carries the rest of the year,'' Jones said during his weekly show on KRLD-FM.
Jones did not discuss Barber's physical condition. If Choice it to receive a ``lot of carries,'' the inference is the Cowboys do not expect Barber to return any time soon from a strained calf muscle.
Jones also said he had received several trade proposals for Choice in the last year. Jones said he kept Choice as insurance at running back. His speical-teams work, which Jones considers to be mediocre, did not figure in that decision
``I'm glad we didn't trade him, and we're not going to,'' Jones said.
