Real good chat from an informed opinion.

Chat with Bryan Broaddus

Welcome to ESPNDallas.com! On Thursday, Dallas Cowboys reporter will stop by to take your football questions.

Broaddus joined ESPNDallas.com in May 2010. He has worked with ESPN 103.3 FM for the last five years, covering the Dallas Cowboys and motorsports for the station. Before joining ESPN, he was a scout in the National Football League for 13 seasons working with the Packers, Eagles, Jaguars and Cowboys. Broaddus earned a Super Bowl Ring from the Packers in 1996.

Bryan Broaddus (11:32 AM)
Good morning guys...guess you have all heard by now that the Cowboys have called a 1:30pm press conference today to announce the next head coach. With that, lets get started.

Aaron (New York)
If the Dolphins do end up changing coaches, what do you think the chances of getting Tony Sparano or Todd Bowles back on the cowboys staff as assistants are?

Bryan Broaddus (11:35 AM)
I think that Tony would be an excellent fit here as the offense line coach. I know that Hudson would like to stay on and continue but to add Sparano would be outstanding. He helped Garrett so much when he was here with the game plan and play calling. I don't have a great feeling for Bowles.

Corey (Atlanta, GA)
With the 9th pick of the 2011 draft the Dallas Cowboys select....

Bryan Broaddus (11:36 AM)
A defensive player. The way I see it right now, there will be a chance to draft a corner and or a defensive linemen. The grades of those types of players on their board will be better than an offensive linemen.

Michael (Carrollton)
Why would Newman be on the bubble? I know he's not great but he played better than Jenkins. not too mention we are thin at corner

Bryan Broaddus (11:41 AM)
Terence was the Cowboys most consistent corner on tape, then he got banged up and was playing hurt the rest of the way. I know that Jenkins and Scandrick had their moments of poor play too but from what I have been told, don't be surprised if there is some talk there about replacing Terence in this draft.

AJ (DC)
Bryan, do you trust the scouts in picking the right player at #9 and throught the draft or do we have a better chance of picking whoever Keiper and McShay have on their boards for the whole draft? We've had too many misses lately to be comfortable with the scouts board.

Bryan Broaddus (11:45 AM)
I am going to be real honest here, a lot of those scouts are guys that I have worked with and they are my friends. They are an outstanding group of hard working guys. They know they have made mistakes and are working to correct what flaws there have been in drafting. I would have faith that these scouts will have a quality draft for this team. The do feel the pressure but they are prepared.

John (Houston)
Nick Farley or Marcel Darius? Is it easier to take a guy who has worked in the 3-4 system or go with the guy whos a beast in the 4-3 and teach him the 3-4?

Bryan Broaddus (11:48 AM)
Really good question. There is so much to like about both of these players and they will go very high in this draft. I feel its easier for a guy that has already played the position to be a better fit in your scheme. I will offer this, Marcel will probaly sit higher on the Cowboys board than Nick.

Ken (Fort Worth)
What about the Cowboy's offensive line needs? How do you think they will address them?

Bryan Broaddus (11:52 AM)
There is no doubt that the Cowboys will look to the draft as well as free agency to try and fix this offensive line. They are working on the draft part of it now but when they have a better understand of the CBA, then they will learn who is free and restricted and make a plan from there.

Jeremy (Cypress, TX)
What is the chance or possibility that the Cowboys try and get Green Bay's Defensive Coordinator Dom Capers? What would thay have to do in order to get him from the Packers?

Bryan Broaddus (11:54 AM)
I know when Jason Garrett first talked to Jerry about this job, he mentioned Dom Capers. I don't feel like that the Packers will just let him go after two seasons. I would talk with Eric Mangini or Rob Ryan if I had the chance. Garrett needs someone with some toughness.

David (Dallas)
I am guessing Dallas would target or prefer these players: Da'Quan Bowers, Patrick Peterson, Nick Fairley, Prince Amukamara, Marcell Dareus, or maybe Robert Quinn DE/outside Linebacker. If those players are not there Cowboys will trade down to target an offensive lineman. Is this correct?

Bryan Broaddus (11:58 AM)
All great names that you offered here and players that will most likely have high grades on their draft board. Its early but I dont see any names of offensive linemen like we had last season on this board. Its early but still maybe that will change. All these defensive players could help.

Reuben36 (Nashville)
Does Sean Lissemore, Josh Brent, and Stephen Bowen all have solid futures here and whats your thoughts on each?

Bryan Broaddus (12:00 PM)
I love Brent and have since training camp. Know the scouts like Lissemore and Bowen is a guy that I would resign of the three DE's that are not under contract. Still need to look very hard at the draft here for help at end.

Terrell (Salisbury, MD)
Garrett throughout his career has been around 4-3 defenses. Any possibility he switches back early in his tenure, a la Parcells switch to 3-4?

Bryan Broaddus (12:02 PM)
Jerry Jones told us the other day that he is committed to running a 3-4 scheme. But you need to also remember that when they play nickel, they play a 4-3 as well, so they do still run it.

Nathan Thomas (Linden, Tennessee)
Will Dallas keep all 3 Running Backs or make a change ?

Bryan Broaddus (12:03 PM)
Just my two cents, keep Jones,Choice and draft another. Its time for Barber to go.

Josh (PA)
McMahon lists Gurode as "on the bubble" to bring back next year. I don't think he is a true pro-bowler, but he did only allow 1.5 sacks and you can only fix so many OL holes. Do you see him as "on the bubble"?

Bryan Broaddus (12:07 PM)
I guess I have never been right on Gurode, if you folks had the same opportunity to watch him like I do, you would make that switch fast. The guy that has played better since Garrett took over was Davis. I would try and replace the center and the right tackle if I was in the front office.

Greg (Ontario, Canada)
Scouts with the Cowboys seem to be focused (for the most part) on measureables. WR Roy Williams is a good example. We don't seem to even bother giving players a look who fit outside a certain mold (i.e. like many short players on the Patriots, who, you know, can actually play football). Why not look for football players rather than focus on the measureables?

Bryan Broaddus (12:14 PM)
I am sorry but after sitting in that room with those guys I have to disagree. You have to give the Patriots credit for the way they fit players in their schemes. There are certain positions that size and speed are vital at and if you try and fit a player in that role other than that, you are probaly going to have a big miss. Again, there is a lot of tape study about players that go on this time of year, the measureables are only part of it.

Busy at Work (Austin)
I'm still wanting some ILB insurance in case Brooking doesn't come back and Sean Lee gets hurt again. Also, I don't really trust Ogletree as the 3rd WR/slot...any chance of us getting Jernigan out of Troy?

Bryan Broaddus (12:18 PM)
I really do like your thoughts about the linebacker and receiver situation. What you are thinking is actually going on at Valley Ranch. I do not know the player you are talking about at Troy but as we go through this draft process, I am sure that I will learn about him.

Brad (Raleigh, NC)
I hear that Hudson Houck is retiring, any idea who may be brought in to replace him?

Bryan Broaddus (12:21 PM)
I made the same mistake that you just did and on the radio said that Hud was retiring. He walked up to me at practice one day and we shared a nice laugh about it. He told me he got a new contract and he would love to continue to work with Jason if they want him to. So no retiring.

Gary (los Feliz)
As a long time fan and follower, I must say, Jerry Jones is a certified con artist! He is NOT doing his due diligence by avoiding the bigger named coaches. He ACTS like he is actually interested in other coaches when clearly he has his next lame duck stool pigeon lined up already. The fact is, Garrett, was just as much of the problem as Wade was!! Thats a FACT!! Whether you people admit or not, you guys from ESPN are all on the payroll. I don't see any of you calling Jerry out at all!!!! He WILL always be the problem with this team! So wake up stooges!! He's a phony, insincere, half-witted G.M. who wishes he knew football...

Bryan Broaddus (12:24 PM)
This was my first question of the day, I am sure that Gary is not alone in his thoughts but I am not surprised that Jerry is going to hire Jason Garrett. He has viewed him as his head coach since he brought him from Miami. It just took a terrible season from Wade to get him the job.

Dave (New Jersey)
I've never been quite sold on Tony Romo, any chance you see Dallas taking a QB in a later round and start developing his replacement ?

Bryan Broaddus (12:28 PM)
You should have seen the hate mail I got last week after my Romo comments. To answer your question, I would always look into drafting a quarterback. Its just smart business. If good you can use them, or trade them for other pieces to help build your team. There are always opportunities if you have quality quarterbacks on your roster.

Jasmine (Joppa)
As a long-time Cowboys fan, I hate the hiring of Garrett. I'm on the firejasongarrett.com fanclub. Do you think he actually turns this ship around like Sean Payton did in New Orleans?

Bryan Broaddus (12:30 PM)
Jason did some nice things in the 8 weeks he was on the job. Jerry is is betting that he can become the next Payton. I was with Sean in two different stops, Philly and Dallas, he is as rare as they come.

Dylan (dfw)
Because of the CBA uncertainty, when does the Free Agency period begin this year? Also, how active do you see the Cowboys being and who are some players they may target?

Bryan Broaddus (12:33 PM)
Once the CBA gets taken care of, I expect the Cowboys to have a plan of how to attack the market. The big unknown right now is who is free and who is not. With holes to fill, I could see the Cowboys being aggressive once they have the rules to the game.

Todd(PA) [via mobile]
Word is Miami coaches are cleaning stuff out of via from ESPN now that it's out that Garrett is the next HC any word that Bowles will be named today as DC because of the Harbaugh saga?

Bryan Broaddus (12:36 PM)
Just a gut feeling, I am not sure that Todd Bowles will be the next defensive coordinator. With a first year head coach, does it make since to have a rookie defensive coordinator? We saw what happened with Brian Stewart here. Have been wrong before.

Tosan (Waterloo, Ontario)
I don't understand your analysis or hatred for Gurode. Isn't he still one of the most physical and better inline blockers at the Center position? Are you judging him solely on second level blocking? Surely he can't be as bad as you say. And both our players and coaches and those of other teams-who voted him into the probowl when fans didn't-agree.

Bryan Broaddus (12:39 PM)
Thank you for your thoughts...thats all the time I have today...have to get ready for the 1:30pm Cowboys Press Conference. Keep it locked into ESPN Dallas for all your Cowboys needs...

No matter how Newman played this year, we need to find his replacement. He's always getting banged up and that doesn't improve with age.
