Casey Matthews, Kurt Coleman demoted in Philly

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on September 29, 2011, 9:43 AM EDT

So much for Eagles defensive coordinator Juan Castillo saying Philly will keep the same starting linebackers this week.

Philadelphia has made a change; they will send rookie Casey Matthews to the bench. Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, taking a break from his burgeoning boxing career, reports Brian Rolle will replace Matthews in the starting lineup.

Matthews has looked like a weak link since the preseason. The team moved him from the middle to the weak side against the Giants, and that didn’t work out well. Jamar Chaney will start middle linebacker, and Moise Fokou will stay at strong side.

The Eagles will also make a change at safety. Nate Allen will replace Kurt Coleman in the starting lineup. Coleman gave up a big play last week to the Giants, but Allen also struggled when he entered the lineup.

As for McLane, there has been no word of a possible rematch with fellow reporter Les Bowen despite Asante Samuel’s attempt to egg on the situation.

Not like Coleman lost his job, Allen was always the starter, just wasn't fully healthy. He's by far the better play when healthy.. wish we could have gotten him.

I'm more than happy with Sean Lee. Thank you very much. He's definitely the better player.

Actually Allen was one of the worst rated safeties in the league last yr. I think Football Outsiders actually had him as bad if not worse than Ball was.

That's cool.. he played well for them though. He covered up alot of mistakes for Dimitri Patterson, who shouldn't even be in this league.

As i said.. that's great. I watched him.. he played well for a rookie and covered up alot of mistakes by Dimitri Patterson, who again shouldn't be in the NFL at all. It was pretty evident after Allen went down with his injury in December.

LOL that phrase makes me laugh every time I read it. I played D-line in the USFL so I am qualified to run a NFL defense. I'm pretty good at Madden I can run the Eagles special teams.

God i love people who have no idea what they're talking about yet post just to act like idiots..

You all got me again, Allen sucked last year and the defense was better when he was injured.

That is funny, I remember you running your mouth about McNabb this offseason. How has he done so far?
