BTB: Cowboys In The Hunt For Brandon Mebane And Cullen Jenkins?
Cowboys In The Hunt For Brandon Mebane And Cullen Jenkins?
by One.Cool.Customer on Jul 28, 2011 2:51 PM CDT in Dallas Cowboys 2011 Free Agents
According to Jason LaCanfora of the NFL Network, Dallas is in the hunt for Seattle's Brandon Mebane. The Seahawks want to re-sign Mebane and it looks like the Saints are also interested in the 26-year old defensive tackle.
The 6-1 / 311 Mebane is one of the top defensive linemen available in free agency. Mebane is primarily a run-stuffer in the Seahawks' 4-3 defense. Pro Football Reference list him with only one sack and two QB hits in 2010, but despite missing four games with a calf injury last year, he still notched 24 QB pressures, the sixth best total among all defensive tackles in the league. Just for reference, Jay Ratliff had 25 pressures (along with four sacks and four hits).
At the same time, PFT is reporting that the Jenkins-to-Redskins deal is dead, not surprising given that the Redskins just stocked up their line with the Cowboys' Stephen Bowen. With this, Jenkins just got a lot more attractive for the Cowboys, who are unlikely to offer him the type of deal the Redskins were dangling in front of him. Plenty of suitors remain for Jenkins' services, but the Cowboys are in the hunt.
As reported earlier the Cowboys are also still talking to two defensive ends who have played for Rob Ryan in Cleveland, Kenyon Coleman and Robaire Smith.Marcus Spears is obviously also still available, while Jason Hatcher, whose chances of remaining a Cowboy were slim to none, twittered that he was heading out to Denver tomorrow for a visit with the Broncos.
If the past two days are anything to go by, perhaps we can expect another signing at around 11:00 pm ET tonight.
